I'm not close to 87, but hope to arrive at the conclusion, whatever that means, in somewhat "reasonable" conditions despite finding myself prey to all the ills that flesh is heir to; accordingly, 2/3 of the way through "Nothing to be Frighened Of", a wonderful, deeply meaningful, exposition on the comical and ever uncertain human condition, I, too an agnostic, struggle with Barnes' conclusion that there is nothing left after to the loss of God, despite the loss of God. Nonetheless, I turn to the writings of Virginia Woolf, in particular "To the Lighthouse" for something to continue to inspire me to abandon the darkness. And I wonder if this relatvisitic vision of transcendent family meaning finds value in Barnes' remarkably challenging context. I suspect not, but would appreciate an opinion.
