Make sure that you are following the instructions correctly (pull the metal lever twice, press the eyelet you'll use first down, pull the metal lever once more, then press the second eyelet down). The machine should now pick up the first color when you move it past the color changer, move to the left and knit with the first color and then bring it back and it should change the colors again automatically.
If it is not doing this, by simply not pulling the metal lever itself, you might have to make sure that the two parts are aligned, when you look at the bottom of the rear cam as you bring it to the right side of the machine, you will see if it is aligned with the metal lever on the color changer. Mine was not and I had to bend it (slightly and carefully!) to make sure that the cam would activate the lever. When it is doing this, start over from the beginning by pulling the lever twice by hand and so on.
