Subject: My dad was a member in 1946 and we're going though a tough time now

My dad could use cheering up, as could our whole family. Mom, Julia Thomas, was diagnosed with end stage cancer just after Thanksgiving, and though it was not a surprise it was a shock. Just a week or so before she was working around the house and helping my sister paint her new home. Anyone who knew dad, or their next of kin, who may have stories to share or just cares to drop him a line can do so at : Jack Thomas, POBox 366, 53992 Rudy, Dowagiac, MI 49047. I've tried to contact bandmates with mixed success and I'm sure that's due to most of them either not being in the alumni association or their being deceased. Mom was the cornerstone of most of the extended family as well, and I, still a confessed "momma's boy" despite my age, have been hit hard, too. My sister, Lauri, has bore the brunt of paperwork; she's a godsend. It's been tough financially, emotionally, in every way. But I'm sure many of you have been though similar pain. I think we will manage to get by though the coming year is going to be real rough. Dad's health is worse than I thought, too. Tobacco has taken a big bite out of our family. I don't mean to depress you with our troubles this holiday but, as friends of dad in what were some of his happiest times, I thought you should know. I had addresses or phone numbers for several of you that I cannot find now. If you remember dad, please drop him a line. I'd especially like to thank Mrs. DePietro, and like to hear from her again, for her nice letter and photo. They were a little damaged in the mail but were a real boost. Also, Mr. Seymour Axelrod, who called dad recently, please call him again. The member list I just saw mentioned others from that time and I hope to hear from them or their families too: Cy Baylor, Edward Carroll, James Clark, William Clark, Don Fejfar, Joe Greco, and Joe Levine....Thank you.
