"This is a Pretend, Sara, I'm not really an agent. For all intense purposes and I have a paper trail to prove it, but I'm not truly FBI. I was helping a woman find her missing daughter and ran across this case accidentally."

"So, what do you do, just float through life finding missing kids and solving cases?" Sara asked in disbelief.

"Pretty much. I lose interest in things quickly and rarely play by the rules so I doubt I could hold down a real job. It started out as a way to make it through the day while I was looking for my family, after I escaped The Centre, now, it�s a hard habit to break. Parker inherited everything from her Mother and I've made a lot of lucrative investments over the years so we have no worries about money. When I get restless at home, I go on a Pretend. They rarely last a week or so. This will be the last one before the babies are born."

"How do you choose? Does one Pretend stem from another?"

"We get newspapers from all over the US, I usually pick something from them but occasionally, like this one I do cold cases."

�Just whatever strikes your fancy that day, huh?�

�I help who I can, do you have a problem with that?�

�You�re breaking the law, no matter how smart you are, you�re jeopardizing cases. I thought you were an actual agent, what if this goes to trial? I mean it could take a year for it to make it before the judge, are you just going to lie on the stand or is that why you chose to have the NYPD involve? You just disappear into the sunset like some cowboy?� The sheer arrogance of this man astounded her.

�I�ve never had a problem before. I knew this was a disaster when Ian told you about us. And just how do you explain your little bracelet assisted high clearance record?�

Sara�s eyes widened in shock, �what did you just say?�

�Ian told me about your enchanted jewelry to help smooth over the fact that he�d spilt the beans about our past.

Sara�s mouth gaped as she glared at the smug man before her. Two seconds later she was out the door, down the stairs and on the street.
