Author's Note: Thanks everyone for your encouragement. You all are so nice. I just wanted to say that I am really struggling with this story. When I first started I had a complete idea of what I wanted to write, but now I am finding it difficult to articulate it. Plus school starts the 19th and I take 3 night classes so I'm kind of rushing to get this done & it's just not happening. Please send positive vibes my way to help me get through this mental block. Here's chapter 6 (hopefully 7 will be on its way soon!)

Ian gazed at the couple through his sunglasses unbeknownst to them. He sat in the middle of the hoards of sun worshipers on a lounger with his feet dangling over. He could not have been better cloaked had he been wearing camouflage in the jungle. His shirt had been tossed aside revealing the sweat glistening sinewy muscles beneath. The eyes of the scantily clad woman sitting near him traveled from his luxurious chest to his powerfully built legs. He turned his head to face the young woman and slightly grimaced to discourage any further development. Distractions cannot be tolerated, he thought, as he once again shifted his attention to the wielder and her companion.

Sara and Gabriel sat on the blanket together looking out over the glistening water. The sunlight sparkled on the waves like diamonds. The moist air enveloped them as they sat content in their silence. She reached over and took his hand in hers. He gave her a little squeeze.

“This has been exactly what I needed,” Sara said. “I haven’t been this relaxed in I don’t know how long.”

“Yeah, me too,” Gabriel softly replied.

He looked down and noticed for the first time the emptiness on her wrist.

“Where’s the bracelet?” he asked.

“What bracelet?” she feigned ignorance.

He rolled his eyes at her.

“Oh, that bracelet!” she laughed. “I figured if I was going to try to get a tan I probably shouldn’t wear it.”

“You left it in the hotel room?” he asked.

“No, of course not. It’s here in my bag,” she motioned.

“Ok, just checking,” he said.

“Thanks for the concern, Mom,” she said. “I am starving. Are you ready to grab some lunch?” she asked.

“Yeah, let’s head back in,” he said rising to his feet.

Gabriel snatched the blanket and began folding it. Sara threw the sunscreen and towels in her bag and slung it over her shoulder. They began their trek down the beach sidestepping running children. In the distance Sara noticed a shabby little tiki bar.

“Hey, do you want to stop and get a dr…” she stopped, her mouth gaping.

She saw him casually leaning against a wall. Her heart began thumping loudly in her chest.

“What did you say?” Gabriel asked.

“Oh my God! Look!” she yelled pointing towards the bar.

Gabriel followed the direction of her hand.

Her eyes darted towards her empty wrist for an instant and then back again. Damn it.

“What?” he asked with a confused expression.

She began to run towards the bar. She frantically searched the diminutive premises. She bumped into several people before Gabriel caught up with her and grabbed her arm.

“Sara, what the hell is the matter with you?” he asked.

“Gabriel, didn’t you see him? He was here,” she wailed.

“Who was here?”

“Nottingham!”

Gabriel placed both of his hands on her shoulders and looked her squarely in the eyes.

“Pez, what are you talking about? Nottingham’s dead,” he said.

“I know. But I just saw him standing right there against that wall,” she said pointing her finger.

“Ok, too much sun for you. Come on, sit down for a second,” he said leading her towards a bar stool.

“No, no, Gabriel. I swear to God! I saw him!” she said with wide eyes. She reached in her bag for the Witchblade and placed it on her wrist. Too little, too late, she thought.

He grabbed the stool beside her and sat down. He cupped his hands to his face and tried to breathe in deeply.

“Ok, Sara. You probably saw someone who looked like Nottingham,” he calmly said.

“No, it was him. I’m sure of it. He was standing right over there and kind of glared at me. It was him. His hair was pulled back and he was wearing a light green shirt and black shorts…”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” he interrupted. “Light green shirt? Black shorts? Come on, Sara. Listen to yourself. Since when have you ever seen him wearing something like that? It was a guy that had a long dark haired ponytail and he reminded you of him. That’s all.”

She looked away from him in frustration. I know what I saw, she thought.

“Ok, fine. I was wrong. I want to go back to the hotel now,” she said unconvinced of any mistaken identity.

They walked side-by-side in silence across the beach. Ian slowly emerged from behind the bar carefully watching them. My finely tuned genetic enhancements are no match for her or her lover, he thought. I am a vapor. He retrieved the cell phone from his pocket and dialed the number.

“Mr. Irons, we are on schedule,” he said.

“Excellent, Ian. Excellent.”

Sara looked out over the water from the balcony in her room. She had complained of a headache to Gabriel and retired alone for the evening. I don’t want to hurt his feelings but I need to be by myself, she thought. There was a knock on her door and she walked over to answer it.

“Room service,” the voice said.

She opened the door and let him in. She gave him a tip and he left the cart. She lifted the lid and peered at the succulent steak, baked potato, and broccoli. I’m not even hungry, she thought as she placed the lid back over the food. She walked over to the mini bar and grabbed a beer. Taking a huge swig, she plopped down on the chair and turned on the T.V. falling fast asleep. She awoke to a darkened room except for the light from the television.

Sara turned on the lamp and shut the T.V. off. She headed for the bathroom to take a nice relaxing bath. With candles lit she stepped into the steamy water and slowly inched her way down. Placing her arms up along the sides of the marble tub she closed her eyes and leaned her head back.

Ian soundlessly entered the hotel room. He noticed the powerful bracelet sitting on the dresser. He reached out and simulated stroking it. Shifting his attention, he extinguished the lamp and treaded softly towards the bathroom. The faint glow from the candles cast shadows throughout the room. He stood in the doorway for a moment and then quietly slipped into the room, taking careful notice of the large ficus tree in the corner. After staking his claim to that spot he stood in the shadow of the tree and silently gazed upon her.

She lay there without moving for twenty minutes. He patiently waited all the while intently studying her: the long flowing dark hair, her lovely face and sensuous lips, the curve of her neck, her well-toned arms and the slightest hint of her breasts protruding from the water. He knew that he should begin the night’s festivities, but he could not bring himself to disturb her sleep. Irons’ voice played through his head but he would not heed it.

Suddenly Sara flipped her head forward and her eyes flew open.

“Who’s there?” she asked uneasily.

Ian partially stepped out from behind the plant and allowed himself to be seen and recognized. He was wearing the usual black attire with his dark curls freely hanging. His hazel eyes shined in the candlelight. He placed his leather clad finger over his lips and motioned for quiet. Sara lay there paralyzed for a few moments. She began to lunge forward and then leaned back realizing her vulnerable position. He slightly grinned at her discomfort.

“Jesus Christ!” was all she could manage to whisper.

With all of the strength he could muster, Ian turned quickly and seemingly disappeared out of the room. Sara sat in the tub shaking. She rubbed her eyes. Timidly, she stepped out of the water and wrapped a towel around her. She walked into the other room and flipped on the light. She made her way to the balcony and opened the sliding glass door. She stood there in the tropical breeze and placed her face into her hands. What the hell is wrong with me? she thought. That seemed so real. And yet I know it couldn’t be. It couldn’t be. He’s dead. First I can’t get him out of my dreams, now I’m having hallucinations while I’m awake. You’re losing it, Pez.

Ian watched her from below, concealed in the darkness. He knew he was getting to her. His master would be pleased with how things were progressing. He turned to leave when all of a sudden he noticed Sara’s tears. He could not move. Ian continued watching her and felt a pang in his chest. He closed his eyes and images from the former Ian penetrated his senses. He saw her pain, her vulnerability, her bravery, and he felt his predecessor’s undying devotion to the wielder. The overwhelming emotions flooded his senses. Where does this come from? he thought. How can she possess such a hold over me? He opened his eyes and saw that she had retired for the night. He could not erase the deluge of images that gripped his mind. I can’t lose myself in her, he thought. I must expedite my plans to eliminate any possibility of sentiment
