I was in Hq Brty, I was in the avaition section, We left Ft Sill, by rail, to CA. loaded on a ship, the "Buckner" I think,I stepped ashore on my 21's birthday, 26 Oct 1965.
While on board we where told that a Battery of 8" from the 3/18th was going to be assiged to our Bn, and 1 of our Brty was going to them, I dont know why, but they switched, We move to Plie (sp), in Nov/Dec of 65, next to a SF camp,a big battle had taken place before we got there, there were bodies and duds, laying every where. While there, I drove the Op Officers jeep (Maj Neu), he was laying in the guns, I ask him to show me, and he did, but that is not to say, I was able to to it, a while later, 2 weeks/a month, (can't remember how long)MSG Heavener was the NCOIC of ops, looked at me and said. "Twig" you went to Demo school didn't you? I said yes, not sure as to why he wanted to know, I was then made the EOD person.I also blew down trees, and made a deep hole in the creek for a pool, but thats another story.
I rotated in 66, when back in 68-69 w/155 ACH
