Subject: Con type phone calls

How rude can one be when on the receiving end of a phone call you know is a total con? I had the usual call today from "Microsoft" about my computer, David had held on to the call until I had got back downstairs as he wasn't sure whether it was a genuine call or not, and the heavily accented fellow started the usual spiel about there being a problem with microsoft, so I interrupted him and told him before he went any further I knew it was a con so he started arguing the toss, when I lost my rag just a tad and told him it was a load of bollocks, don't keep wasting my time and put the phone down on him. The phone rang almost immediately, same man, bit irate by now, he was phoning from the Microsoft London Head Office (yeah, sure) and my system would crash in a couple of days if I didn't listen to him and do as I was told, so I told him I didn't believe a word he said and put the phone down again. By that time David was almost wetting himself with laughter and said that he didn't think the fellow got told very often that what he said was a load of .............. I said the man was starting to annoy me, to which David replied "obviously", but should I have kept my cool and been more polite, bearing in mind that we get about half a dozen of these calls a week, or did I do right in the hope that they might put a "nasty person" by my name and stop calling me? I think I was relatively polite in a rude sort of way, I could have said much worse.
