Subject: Ramblings after todays debate

These are just the ramblings of a bemused auld wumman who has been watching too much television and sipping too many wee glasses of white wine this evening.

Only a few more weeks until the American Elections, and the world waits and trembles. McCain could be President, but he is in his 70’s and has suffered from cancer more than twice or thrice, and could be considered a candidate for a heart attack at any time. By default, Palin could be President and therefore the most powerful person in the world, if the Republicans win office. She is a first time state Governor with less than two years experience in office. This is a person who claims insight into Russia because she can see it from her state of Alaska. Who believes that the world was created in 6 days and that all life on earth are survivors of Noah’s Ark. - I’m still not sure how Noah got every species on earth into an ark of the size quoted in Genesis - or how he got to the Pacific Ocean to pick up the animals from Australia, NZ and South America etc and got them back again from Turkey after the flood. I can only assume that God must have shrunk them and transported them via the Tardis. But the majority of Americans believe the myths of the Old Testament are absolute facts, so it must be.

Will Osama and Biden be any better though? I am beginning to think that all American Leaders are not only reading the wrong page, but reading a different book entirely from the rest of the world.

I watched the debate between the “running partners” on TV this morning. Palin came across not too badly, but she avoided a lot of questions and rambled widely in parts. For me she is an example of why people fear and mistrust American policies, and an example of the type of American who cannot understand why people fear and mistrust American policies.

And then there is the American monetary meltdown. I don’t even want to think about that. My superannuation pension fund is steadily shrinking even as I write this.

My question of the moment, America has lost all credibility in both foreign policies and monetary policies; will it survive as the World Superpower?

Ah George you definitely will be remembered in World History won’t you?
