Nationalist stabbed in north Belfast
January 2, 2001
The following information is about last nights attack on a nationalist father of five:
Loyalists attacked nationalist homes in Newington Street, off the Limestone Road, around 2am.
Windows were broken in a nationalists house.
As nationalists came out onto Newington Street they ran after the loyalists. Only a handful of nationalists were on Newington Street.
As one man got near to the loyalists he was set upon and stabbed in the head up to five times.
Local people who went to the mans aid said his wounds were bad. They had to hold his head together.
The man is now in hospital in a very bad way. His life is still in danger.
It is clear that this was a planned attack by loyalists. They knew very well that nationalists would be forced to come onto the street as the homes were being attacked.
With this information it is clear that there were no groups facing each other. In fact nationalists were set up and one man is now fighting for his life.
