So the British are the problem are they? How completely and utterly can you fail to grasp the situation? The Northern Irish conflict is about NATIONALITY, the very fact it is taking place is because Northern Ireland includes ONE MILLION people whose self-declared and internationally-recognised nationality is BRITISH. The British are not an occupying force, they are the hundreds of thousands of people whose families have lived in NI longer than the US has been in existence - generation after generation.
As for the Protestant minority in the Republic, I think you will find that it has shrunk from some 10% of the population when the state was formed in 1921, to just 2 or 3% today. Is it any wonder we want to remain British, part of a nation that defends the rights of all, and accepts refugees and other immigrants much more freely than modern Ireland (if you don't believe me read the established and respected Irish broadsheet press eg Irish Times, Irish Independent, which is full of criticism of the Irish lack of sympahy with "oppressed" peoples).
Ireland is not some blemish-free idyll, it represents a multitude of horrors to Ulster's 1m Unionists/Protestants. Why else would we be so implacably opposed to Irish Unification. Think about it, we have a multitude of valid reasons.
ULSTER IS BRITISH, NO SURRENDER!
