NEW YEAR'S STATEMENT FROM FRANCIS MACKEY, NATIONAL CHAIRPERSON, 32 CSM
Republicans have a duty and a responsibility to uphold the principles of the 1916 leaders, the First Dil hireann and the Sovereignty of the Irish Nation. As we reflect on the past year, we have witnessed the Republican base reel from one shock to the next and at the same time attempt to maintain a commitment to a "leadership led" movement that has deceived many of them and bribed others in a corrupt process, which has quite blatantly abandoned all republican principles in a clamour to administer British rule in Ireland.
A very obvious dimension to the erroneously termed 'peace process', and compounded by the British government's 'normalisation' strategy, is the attempted criminalisation of Republicans who are not prepared to allow the sacrifices of three decades to be misconstrued in an arrangement that legitimises British rule in the Occupied Six Counties.
It is indeed sad to witness former comrades forsake the Republican cause and take on the mantle of the oppressor by leading the charge on reinforcing the black propaganda against republicanism for which Britain has been renowned throughout centuries of misrule in Ireland.
The year ahead will be a real test of true grit and endurance for Republicans because the Dublin administration and the pro-British revisionist parties are all out, to not alone uphold their flawed positions but, to end Republican opposition to British rule here, always the priority of the British agenda.
We in the 32 County Sovereignty Movement have one clear message for all of them:
British rule in Ireland when administered directly by Britain failed, now administered by renegade republicans will fail; it has and will always fail because it was illegal at its inception and remains illegal now. We will continue to uphold the legality of National Sovereignty and to reject British rule in any shape or form. We are confident in the knowledge that our path is legitimate and that united we will overcome every obstacle, every injustice and every violation of human rights the British and their allies throw at us. History has shown that when many lost their nerve and threw up their arms in surrender, there were always the few and the brave to keep the faith and carry on the torch of republicanism on behalf of our future generations.
Administering British rule at Stormont, renaming the discredited RUC, pandering to those who wish to protect the illegal British claim, none of this will bring a lasting peace to our island; it will present us with a lull while the unworkable political system falls apart and the 'politicians' become rich and respectable. Nothing will change for the grassroots who will eventually waken up to the fact that they have been used and abused by their leaders.
We call on all Republicans to stand behind the only legitimate challenge to British rule in Ireland at the United Nations. A challenge that protects and upholds Irish sovereignty.
