I went in in 1983 then again in 1984. My first sentence was 3 months Dc my second was 4 Months DC.
Its was brutal, there were lads committing suicide and more attempting it regularly.
I watched one night as the lad in the next cell used his shoe polish tin to cut deep into his wrists. He had bent the lid of the tin back and forth then ripped it in two and used it as a ragged, jagged weapon. For some reason he had ate the shoe polish as-well. This happened because of a screw from reception nicknamed Kung Fu. The rat Kung Fu had taken a dislike to the lad after the PT teacher had took Kung Fu to the Gym and spanked him all over the place for having an affair with his wife. The lad made a comment to Kung Fu, mocking him. Wrong move , within a day Kung Fu had spread word round the prison that the lad was a grass. He was being threatened on parade and during circuit training. He could take no more and attempted to take his life.
The screws I remember is Kung Fu who eventually was transferred over to the YO's and wee Geordie Bed Block, who was decent enough.
It was a hell of a place and done nothing to deter me from a full life of crime. The bible classes helped pass time and getting to my blue grad on first sentence and my senior red on second was nothing. I wanted out of my cell at the weekend to watch the A team and liked the hill walking privileges that came with the red grades status.
Also it made me fit as a fiddle and taught me discipline that I used all through my criminal career. Glenochil DC made me a fit, decent and prolific criminal in my opinion.
