Scum was a very realistic mixture Of my time in the system (I did Rochester Borstal in the early 70s). However it was not like that every day, and different bits happened in other places, like DC.

You learned pretty damn quick to keep your head down and nose clean. If you didnt *scum* would soon be your reality. I was very impressed with the factual content and that could only have come from inmates experience. Like anything really, some were bad, some were good. But reality it certainly was.

I would say DC was the most unforgiving. That was hard (Watton DC near Grantham) did two terms.
