Subject: Punishment OR rehabilitation. Groundhog day, aka, WHY the does the state never learn?

As someone who has been right through the system, played it and lost, it infuriates me that the politicians never seem to learn from the past. Not just in prisons, but wars and life in general.

The only thing that ever guaranteed I did not commit crime was to be locked up and punished. Not the holiday camp prisons we have today, which in some ways I would think are harder to deal with anyway from a prisoners point of view. We need to accept the fact that some people are just criminals and always will be until we *see the light*. Like smoking or drinking. No one can force us to give it up, it needs to come from ourselves.

We need more prisons based on the short, sharp, shock principle like DC or Borstal and just to accept that's the way it is. Too much money is wasted on the softies at prison reform, or prison visitors club or any other of the 101 little cliques earning a fortune from not having prisons. When did a prison visitor, parole board or reformer ever help us in prison?

WE don't even know why we commit crimes so often, so how the bloody hell can they hope to get inside our heads and change us!! The best we as a society can ever hope for is discipline and crime that is punished. There is no magic cure for crime and never will be. it's been happening for thousands of years, even hanging doesn't stop it!

Why do the politicians never ask the inmates what the score is, and why do they never want to listen anyhow. AND why the hell do we keep voting for these shortsighted, blinkered idiots anyway?

How can we ever expect our kids to learn from our mistakes, when the state doesnt even learn from our mistakes!

I guess they just don't want to hear the truth because it will cost more money than burying their heads in the sand. Either way society pays for it, not them!
