Subject: Stupid question
Brians brother (he divorced his wife, the one with the really bad gifts *g*) and his kids are here for the weekend, they got here last night and are at Kings Island today.
So the nephew this morning asks me what he should do with his towel, and I tell him to just hang it on the back of the bathroom door. Figuring he will use it the next day.
So when they all got out of Dodge, I go up to check the bathroom and all their towels are laying on top of the wicker hamper. I think they use a new towel each day?
We dont use new towels each day, do I have to give them one?

I'd say, hey, unless you were still dirty when you got out, your towel is clean. Couldn't you hang it up and get 2 or 3 days use out of it. I don't think that is unreasonable. -- Tam, 12:10:28 07/25/08 Fri

When I lived at home we always used a new towel every day (my folks still do) but since I was paying for coin laundry I would use a towel a few times. Last time I bought towels I even bought everyone a different colour so no one could complain that someone used their towel by mistake! ;) Now that we FINALLY have our own washer and dryer again I was looking forward to a new towel every day...but still can't seem to bring myself to do it! ;) But for 'company' I would expect them to use a new towel every day...and just throw in a load of white clothes every morning to keep the laundry from piling up. -- Ceilidh, 12:26:03 07/25/08 Fri

Heck NO they are kids and COMPANY! Hang the towels up and tell them what Tam said and that you want to enjoy their visit not do laundry every day to have enough towels!! My kids still toss theirs on the bed or floor and I make them re-use them if they can't be bothered to hang them up that's their problem! I taught them to hang them up! -- BetsyG, 16:38:57 07/25/08 Fri

When I was a kid we never got a new towel every day, and now that I'm married, we still reuse them a few times. Water and electricity are too expensive to wash towels every day! --

I change my own towels 2-3 times a week. I leave enough for guests as such. I know others who like fresh towels everyday, but who wants to do all that laundry? Not me! You're not running a hotel, so give them the house rules. -- Denise, 19:45:28 07/25/08 Fri

I have three towels - and since I'm clean when I use them - (one for the hair, one as a wrap, one to dry) - I use them for almost a whole week - then wash and go again! -- Hedy, 12:53:34 07/26/08 Sat

THIS IS WHY I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH! Eventually someone will come along and tell the truth and then I can chime in! *g* Me too. I have a body towel (yellow), a hair towel (white), a hand towel, Grant has his own towel (green) and I do laundry once a week. So we're one weekers here too. Instead of a towel rack, in my bathroom I installed hooks and they are right above a vent so I think that helps to dry them quickly. And....I have two sets of each, I store one and when I do laundry the stored set comes out. And....I've been doing that since we moved here almost 5 years ago. I replaced the white towels a year ago which were looking ragged probably because of the bleach in the whites. Oh....and Connor uses my white every night because he will only bath in our tub and will only use a white towel to dry off. So I'm pretty much filthy in everyone's books but my towels don't smell so what do I care. :-D Guests??? The longest was Karen at 2 days and she never asked for more. *g* -- Jodi YoB, 20:48:17 07/26/08 Sat

haha.....that's because we're weekers too. I said "a few days" in my post but my "few" in this case equals 7. LOL -- Aislinn, 07:55:31 07/27/08 Sun

It must be an American thing to have clean towels every day cause we are 'weekers' too. Even the hotels ask you to keep towels for as long as you can and throw on the floor the ones you want changed. I guess we are more conservationist minded in Canuckland and Europe. I have an American sewing buddy and she changes her PJs every night!!! -- PD, 10:25:45 07/27/08 Sun

Nah, not an American thing. I grew up on a farm and water and money were precious. I think it is just how you were raised. To waste anything in my house was a no-no. -- Tam, 10:31:52 07/27/08 Sun

OH...I'm almost a weeker too. I don't really keep count. If the towel gets stiff or smelly it goes in the hamper. lol No real science or scedule to it. Also have the hooks under a vent instead of towel rack. Heck, Matt just throws his over his closet door. lol -- Tam, 10:29:09 07/27/08 Sun

We are weekers, I almost the same system as you do Jodi. *g* I do differ from a bunch of you, I have one towel for my head and then I have a terry robe I just put on, I dont towel off. By the time I dry my hair and do make up, Im dry. -- M&M, 14:55:22 07/27/08 Sun

I was just going to ask a similar question....We recently found out from DD that at her mothers, she is allowed 2 towels per MONTH and that is all. Inside>>> -- Colly, 13:05:12 07/26/08 Sat
While X is doing her 30 day experimental "trial" period at the mansion with 6, yes count them, 6 bathrooms (according to DD)...she let the kids babysitter, her bf and baby stay at her house to take care of the dog and the pool, etc. Seems they stopped in last week and found that the sitter had used at least 6 towels!! X was so pissed she apparently unplugged the washing machine and the a/c because that was set a few degrees off from what she apparently felt was necessary. (the sitter's mom is DS2's bus driver so we got inside info!) According to DD, her and her mom anly use 2 towels each per month and that is all she is allowed. We use our towels 2 or 3 times, and DH and I even share towels at times and I do a load of towels at least twice a week. It just seems gross to me to use the same two towels ( i use one for body, and one for hair usually) for an entire month. Yes, you are clean when you get out but you're going to slough off dead skin, hair and such and after a month it seems like the towel would be gross. So what do you think of that??

ewwwwwwwwwww a month is too gross- --oh and wait WHY does she get the kids if they are there with a sitter??? Shouldn't they just stay with you for while she is playing house somewhere else? That seems funky to me -- BetsyG (), 13:32:11 07/26/08 Sat

Ick! I change ours out about twice a week, kitchen towels once a day. And I agree with Betsy, wtf if she's not there why don't you have them? Would the court consider that as irresponsible or abandonment on her part? She's just so freakin' weird. *G* -- Maria, 14:18:00 07/26/08 Sat

No, the girl who occasionally babysits for us/her is staying at her house. Her and the kids have moved in with the millionaire....DD has a bedroom that is bigger than our living room, dining room and kitchen combined, with a walk in closet and her own bathroom. DS2 also has a large room with his own bathroom. X has a bedroom "upstairs somewhere" and has told DD that she has her own room because she told her BF that she couldn't live with him unless they were married.......Riiiighhht! -- Colly, 20:02:54 07/26/08 Sat

yeah I'm telling you. Supposedly they are just friends....DD says they aren't affectionate, no kissing, nothing.....my friends don't let me drive their Lamborghini....hell, none of my friends have Lamborghini's!! Nor do they take me to Italy, which is where X is right now. -- Colly, 12:15:55 07/27/08 Sun

We have 2 extra shower curtain rods at the back of the tub so we can hang 4 damp towels over teh tub and no one has to see them. We started this is South Carolina for pool towels and swimsuits and just carried it over (probably because we had all these extra tension rods!) Always seems like one of my best 'ideas'...as long as people check before they turn on the shower! ;) Even if the shower gets put on for a few seconds the towels aren't actually directly in the spray so they are usually safe. I am actually so surpriesed so many people re-use towels as people always seemed to think we were WEIRD (and/or gross) for doing it!! Who knew?? --

Tell 'em this aint the Ritz, you're not the chambermaid and if they want clean linen daily you'd be happy to make them reservations at an alternate location. Sheesh! -- Jeanie, 14:43:34 07/27/08 Sun

The ONLY person I know of who changes towels daily is my sister. I change my towels after 3 days and dh's gets changed when I think of it (his bathroom is downstairs) -- M.F., 02:13:38 07/28/08 Mon

Technically I'm supposed to change towels daily due to my folliculitis (skin condition) but I don't. I have another rule too, if the towel gets droped and left on the bathroom floor, it goes in the laundry, same as any clothes left in a pile on the bathroom floor. Just too gross for me....even though the bathroom floor does get cleaned on a regular basis. -- Colly, 10:25:51 07/28/08 Mon

Boy - I missed a buttload of good stuff here over the weekend! That's what I get for getting a new pc AND company for the week at the same time! It's late to the party - but we only change our towels once a week, and pool towels maybe once every other week (they live out on the lanai so I guess if I don't see them, they don't bother me!) Hopefully they were gracious with your reuse policy on the towels - you aren't their maid after all, and it really is wasteful to change towels daily! -- Colleen

The funniest part about all this is that when we first married and people found out we re-used towels they said we were gross...now that it's 'green' we find out we were being enviormentally responsible! ;) --
