Subject: Another weekend is here......
and nothing is going on in my life except that I'm going to see The Help on Sunday afternoon with a co-worker. She asked me to go with her because she wants to see it with a negro. Ok, she actually said black person but I like to throw "negro" out there just for the entertainment factor. LOL Still it beats going by myself which I would have done since Thom doesn't do movies. Oh, and by the way, her and I get along really well. I pick on her "all about me" personality and also do a very good imitation of her Betty Rubble laugh so if it sounds like she's not PC, that is not the case, it's just the way we roll.
Anyway, loved the book and I'm really hoping I enjoy the movie. Will not be wearing makeup just in cases.
What have you all got planned this weekend?

For Us By Us. I did not know this either and I had bought some sweat anklet socks on clearance and they said FUBU on them. After having them for about a year my son says to me.... you know that's a brand for blacks? I was like... No, I didn't. I didnt realize there was a brand for blacks. *g* I dont really think its just for blacks......really in this day and age, he said it's real popular with his black friends at school. I have to be honest, Im kinda in the dark about all the boys brands, my kids just wear jeans and sports t-shirts, anything else is lost on me. I got a nephew all he will wear is Hollister? Im not sure if thats how its spelled, but its expensive, and Im thinking isnt this why we have boys because they are cheaper to dress? I guess I'm a white bread as you then, cause I don't know nuttin' bout those brand things. I used to dress my kids from Biway and if they had to have a brand they had to buy it themselves. I am nothing but BORING! Although our neighborhood did flood last night and I am Pissed at the DH becuase he refused to be worried or take it seriously and thank god we got no water in the house. The most damage for us is the new landscaping and retainer walls at the end of th driveway but neighbors had wet basements and the golf course was flooded and the wet lands behind us was RUNINING water which we have NEVER seen. Our drainage ditches by the road (where the damage is our now full of other neighbors landscaping rocks that just floated down the hill to us with the surge of water. Today DH and DD left at 8 am for the PSU game and won't be home until 12 or 13 hours later so no working on gardening and landscaping repair...hence I'm pissed! I have to write and IEP and figure out some more stuff for the new job...lots of work on weekends for me from now til Xmas probably! Y'all can just insert any previous weekend plans I've had because they're almost always the same - work, housework, homework, laundry. My BL stayed home to watch the NASCAR race. The girls and I had a nice time, the movie was really, really good, and it followed the book well. I only cried a little in a couple of spots, laughed out loud in a few others. It was very gratifying to hear the girls talking in the backseat on the way home. I've raised a good kid who cares about people no matter their color or ethnicity, and she has great friends too. :) From the discussion I heard their outlook doesn't always jibe with some of the 'popular' girls, unfortunately there are Hilly's everywhere. :( -- Maria, 23:50:24 09/10/11 Sat

Me too, re: Nate Berkus! And I absolutely loved the movie. I couldn't believe how closely they followed the book except about Constantine's (who knew Cisely Tyson was still alive!) daughter but I guess that might have taken to long to explain, although it would have made more sense with a black lady having the nerve to attempt coming in the front door. -- Aislinn (), 16:01:21 09/11/11 Sun

Glad you liked it! True about Constantine's daughter, but as you said, would have taken too long. I knew Cicely Tyson was still alive, but it's been a few years since I saw her in anything, I think the last time was Because of Winn Dixie. I looked her up when I got home - she doesn't work much not because of her age (b. 1933) but because she will only portray strong, positive women's roles. Glad you enjoyed it. I wanted to hit Hilly upside the heid w/a 2X4 throughout the entire movie, what a bitch!!! Thought the book was a bit draggy to begin with but now that I'm at the halfway point I'm liking it better. Still prefer the movie. I remember my first trip to Mississippi in 1972, I was 21 years old and already a very liberal Northerner. I was blown away to find out that bi-racial couples not only did not exist in 1972 Aberdeen, MS but I believe were outlawed!!! It is still the poorest state in the Union and I don't wonder why.

The Help has had really good reviews but it sounds like it would be too emotionally engaging for me. I only see comedies or some milk toasty detective or sci/ fi films. We've been out on the scooters for hours already this weekend - have covered all the back roads on the south and west sides of the island and only been chased by 1 dog. We see lots of deer in the trees and ditches and we came around a corner and scared a raccoon up a tree. I had no idea they could climb that fast. We've also seen several wild turkey flocks. I spent Saturday out at our local horse jumping place Spruce Meadows. We don't really watch the show jumping ( world class, Masters) but check out all of the other stuff. We've had wonderful weather here and it was lovely day to spend with my mom, sil & wee Jack. Tomorrow we're heading out of town for a picnic with some family. I haven't read The Help (not really my thing) but I will see the movie in a year or so when it hits movie central. WOW, we did get very boring, so much so, I stopped stopping by! Currently vacationing in the Okanagan Valley and had time to cruise by. Cherie, sorry about Josi and the step up to meds, she was very mature to handle the diet at her young age. Tam, don't know what to say, your situation is not going to rectify itself without professional help and major committment from all involved. DH and I have been on the Dukan diet (low carb) and doing very well. BUT, sometimes a side effect is insomnia which I am experiencing in a major way so had to add back enough carbs to produced seritonin in order to sleep. And now we are travelling and I'm trying to just hold the line and not gain while vacationing.
MF, hopefully will be joining the retirement club at the end of this year, I am so ready.
The drier air here in the Okanagan has improved my ashma, so we are seriously thinking of moving here. Not what I had planned for my retirement after all the renos to make our house over into what we required.
Off to pack and get on to more wineries. smoochies to all.
