Hey!

It’s been awhile so I thought I would pop in and say Hello. I don’t get much online time anymore….can’t believe how much time I used to spend online. The kids were little then and I wasn’t playing chauffeur, chef, maid and tutor in those days. Sound familiar ladies?
I managed to catch up on all my TBR pile over the last few months. I ended up getting pneumonia and was out of it for 9 weeks so books were my friend.

One of the main series I wanted to catch up on was Anita Blake. I did – now I need Skin Trade - and I must say that I was very happy that I wasn’t reading some of the books on the bus. Wow. Between the guys she actually likes and the “emergency” feeds I don’t think there are many men left she has not “fed” from. Still don’t have a favorite guy – when there are that many to choose from how do you?? I read that LKH is making it a TV series. Question – how will they deal with the ardeur?? It’s not like its something that can be left out of the story line when it is one of Anita’s main powers. Guess I will have to tune in to see.

I also got caught up on Sherrilyn Kenyons books…man, I love those! Ash…mmm, yum…enough said? *G* I read the Twilight Saga…..twice.*G* Ah, Bella and Edward. Loved them! I did see the 1st movie and was a bit disappointed in how they did it but loved the cast and look forward to New Moon - which was filmed here in Vancouver this spring and will return for Eclipse in a few weeks so I may get arrested for stalking : P also, I’m a feeling a little like a pervert ogling 17y/o’s (Taylor Lautner) but can you blame me?? I’m an Edward fan through and through but 17y/o did not look like that when I was that age!! I get reminded by my almost 15y/o DS that I could be the guys mother….he got a smack in the head for that one….lol. I don’t feel as bad looking at Robert Pattinson – he’s at least in his 20’s. I’m older but not blind…thank God! *G*

So, any other vampire books…or any others… I need to read? Where was all this vampire stuff when I was into it as a teenager??

I hope everyone is doing well and I will try to pop in more.

Hugs!
Robyn

[> Robyn, good to see you!!! Everytime I'm in Vancouver I think of you. If your reading vampires the must for me is JR Ward Black Dagger Brotherhood series, best vampire porn I've read in years!! I'm on my second run through. Also loving Kim Harrison Rachel Morgan series. I never got past Twilight, New Moon wasn't out when I read it and just never got around to it. I have enough teenage angst in my house with out reading it, and besides my vampires have to have sex *G* (see JR Ward). You'll have to give us an update on the boys. Loved it, the stories get more complex and interesting and there's always that wonderful hot vampire sex :) How can you go wrong with that? I also read the Twilight series too. It's waaaay tamer, but has its merits also. -- Denise, 18:36:34 06/19/09 Fri

My wrist is as good as it will ever get - I don't have full rotation - can't do palms up and when I finger people its sideways...lol*G* Most likely going to to have to have to bone shaved in a few years but I will put that off as long as possible.
Mike - he's a different story. Its been a really rough 3yrs for him. The last pacemaker surgery went really well but the healing took almost a year - which was in February - He is a fraction of the Mike that he was but works to get there everyday. He suffers from Post Tramatic Stess Disorder due to being awake with no anesthesia during part of one of the surgeries..not even local 'cause they had already given him the alotted amount and they were having complications.. while they were routing in his chest...collapsed lung, nerve damage and a lot more...all awake and in pain... and the whole mess that created for his perctoral and nerves and the slow healing. But, he is getting better and he...and myself and the boys....will never be the same after all we've been through but it could be worse. Now we gear up for next surgery which will be in 6-8yrs and getting him strong enough to go through it all again. He is actually contemplating going to school to be able to work with people with pacemakers but he's not quite there yet mentally. Was he ever? LOL...*G*

[> Hi Robyn! Oooh, I love all that paranormal stuff. I wasn't going to read Twilight, but my neighbor soooo wanted to talk about them, so I caved. It took me a long time to get through the first one, but I really flew through the others and was really impressed by the quality of the writing. I also love Kenyon, Harrison, Armstrong, Ward....well, pretty much everything mentioned above. Inside for a list of other authors to look into. My master list is WAY longer. I reduced it by eliminating anything that was already mentioned or didn't have some romantic steam. *G* >>>> -- Shads, 17:37:16 06/18/09 Thu

mageverse series

3. Master of Wolves
4. Master of Swords
5. Master of Dragons

Short stories in Hot Blooded (the introduction of this series is in there, called Seduction's Gift) and Bite.

In this variation of the vampire genre, Merlin and Nimue were aliens from an alternate dimension who offered Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table immortality in exchange for dedicating their existences to forming the core of a supernatural army and protecting humankind from evil in all its forms. A sip from the Holy Grail converted each man into a magus---an immortal warrior vampire. The women become immortal maja--powerful witches. The relationship between the genders is symbiotic---the men must have the blood of maja to live and heal, the maja must periodically have their blood drained in order to keep their blood pressure from causing stroke and death. And the descendants of either sex have the capacity to become like their magical parent via repeated sexual contact with a fully turned immortal.

There are also dragons, unicorns, werewolves, and fairies in these books, and LOTS of great sex. ~Shads

[> [> I'm just about at the end of Twilight and had a hard time with it until there was actually a story. *g* I just kept wondering how so many adults have gotten through it but now that we're done with all the completely unrealistic, first love bit I can see perhaps enjoying them from here. But if she keeps up with the high school students straight out of the 50s I'm not so sure I can take it. *g* I'm also a bit concerned about these being the only vamp stories in history that allow daylight fraternizing and not just if you are a 1000 year old vamp and can take it. This series is so popular, a whole generation of new vamp lovers could completely rewrite folklore! On another note, I saw a tween wearing a shirt that said on the back, "My life is yours now - Edward" (or whatever he says..."You are my life" maybe?) and just rolled my eyes. I'm such a cynical bitch but I feel kinda bad for young girls if this is what they hope to find. It ain't out there in your teens. *g* -- Jodi YoB, 23:07:25 06/18/09 Thu

I looked up my hold for Finger Licking Fifteen and it says there are 504 holds but with nothing under "Queue" I don't know what f$@%ing number I am. Except I do because when I placed the hold four months ago I phoned to bitch about the new website (first week up at that point) and she told me I appeared to be first in line. So I think I'm number 1. But I leave on Friday for 10 days so hopefully it gets released this week so I can take it with me. -- Jodi YoB, 20:23:46 06/22/09 Mon

[> [> [> Jodi I am so with you on this. I read Twilight when 10yo (at the time) DD brought it home from the school library. It was too much for her to read, as she's reading a bit below grade level. I felt like a really old person after I read it, because I felt like it was a set up for girls to be in abusive relationships! I mean he does tell her he wants to and could kill her at any time and she tells him she doesn't care! I haven't read any of the rest of them yet because of this. If you guys tell me they improve I guess I'll have to check them out. -- Colly, 07:54:14 06/28/09 Sun

SF/Fantasy books that are NOT too racy or overly violent

Darkover series
For a detailed understanding of the (extremely complicated) premise for this series, see wikipedia's entry here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkover_series

MZB always insisted that the Darkover novels are not a series and can be read in any order, since none of the books assumes that you are familiar with any other of the books. If you simply MUST have an order in which to read them, it is better to read them chronologically by publication date, rather than in chronology of Darkovan history; that way you will follow MZB's thought processes as her concept of Darkover grew and expanded.

1. Planet Savers
2. Sword of Aldones
3. The Bloody Sun
4. Star of Danger
5. Winds of Darkover
6. World Wreckers
