In reply to: Maria 's message, "Glad you're feeling better! Vicodin gives me the shakes so I don't like to take it either! I don't know what sort of incision you had but when I had my C section with Dylan my biggest mistake was running the washcloth over my staples - NOT my brightest moment, let me tell ya! Take it easy and feel better soon. (((Betsy)))" on 07:34:38 10/30/09 Fri

Internal incisions only! I had a total vaginal hysterectomy with a bladder sling and bladder repair. He goes up through the vagina and took out my prolapsed uterus with the cervix. Then repairs and tacks up bladder and vaginal wall and inserts a mesh sling to help hold bladder in place. So really no incisions but internal stitches in the vagina to assist with the repairs. So lots of soreness and aches in my abdominal cavity but no incisions to worry about! After 2 natural childbirths I wanted a non invasive hysterectomy and due to bladder issues was not a candidate for the robotic surgery so went with this one. Part of the reason I ended up at Penn State Hershey Medical Center is there are lots of docs in their Women's OB and Gyno Health Center so I could research options. My surgeon is actually certified in both gynocology AND urology. Worth the several 70 mile one way trips to me to have quality care and options.

Actually, I think Donna had her hysterectomy vaginally, but with maybe a couple of small incisions for a laparascope. I'm glad they got everything fixed and hope your convalescence is quick and as painless as possible! -- Maria, 21:08:36 10/30/09 Fri
