Subject: Donations for Karen

As you all prolly know already... we lost our Aislinn yesterday.

And if you knew Aislinn you know that the funding that lung cancer got compared to breast cancer ticked her off! So I will be taking donations in any amount for a lung cancer society in Canada. (I'm hoping one of our Canadian friends will let me know which is the better foundation to donate to.)

I'm hoping we can get a nice big donation in Karen's memory from all of her friends she met through Lallybroch!

We saw her in the morning for a couple of hours with Helene, Kate, Kellye, Thom, her beautiful mom and ... oh that Lilly. Then gave her some rest time and we went back after dinner... and we just sat around her table talking, laughing, bitching..... pure Karen! :) Jodi's Grant came a little later... and we just had the best little time.

It was just such a positive day.... on our afternoon break, Betsy, Jodi and I were talking about how well she seems, and how positive she was, it was just great.

About 5 minutes before we left that night Karen says... I just can't believe how well my family is taking the terminal diagnosis compared to my friends. My heart just sank when she said "terminal".

And we were all saying goodbye that night and we were hugging, and she wouldnt let go, and the longer we are standing there, I'm starting to think what if this is going to be my last hug from her. :( I had to say "Jodi and Bets need hugs too....... because I was going to slost it, and we all were just laughing and having fun and didnt want it to turn into some ugly cry thing.

I know I didn't want any pictures of us that weekend, I dont know how Jodi and Betsy felt... but I didnt want that last picture with her. I was fine with my happy Karen is gonna live as long as the rest of us pictures of her.

And Thom..... OMG.... if you saw him guys, he was just the best caretaker for her. Didnt let her do too much, kicked us out after a few hours in the afternoon. I cry just thinking about how he is going to deal with this.

I honestly cannot believe she is gone.

I cannot remember exactly WHO, but, a few years ago Karen had a friend who had a cancer diagnosis. I worked with a woman who had an embroidery (sp) machine and Karen and I concocted a plot to get a GORGEOUS NEEDLEPOINT looking sampler that said "FUCK CANCER" - I think it had Scottish Thistle on it too. I sent it off to Karen and she framed it and gave it to her friend. Then when Karen got her first diagnosis, I called the lady I had worked with and ordered one for Karen - and I know she framed it and had it for inspiration! When I knew she was diagnosed terminal - there simply were no words. And really there still aren't. I am so sorry for Thom and the kids and wee Lilly! I am in awe of the outpouring of love all over the place for Karen! She's one of a kind and I miss her already!

The first thing she did when I saw her last Fergus was walk up and lick my face and say, "there, Cherie told me to give you a big wet one." It was hysterical.
