[> Hey there! He's good and...who knows>>> -- Tam, 22:48:58 06/21/12 Thu

Physically he is healing really well. He didn't even want pain meds the day after he got home from the hospital. He lost 33 pounds from May 17th (his last pre op visit) to June 14th, his first post op visit. He's walking the dogs twice a day. He could be doing a LOT more. He does NOT push himself to exercise. We have to ride his ass. He did well on his first post op diet but the second the doc gave him the go ahead for "soft foods" he has gone overboard...I think. He fortunately or UNfortunately, depnding on your view, can tolerate sugar and dairy. Some can't after the surgery. He can't eat quickly or a lot, which is a good thng since wolfing down ginormous portions is his biggest problem. So, eating small amounts and slowly, he's doing well on. But, he keeps pushing it on what he can have. He made a quiche for dinner the other night, added bacon and a ton of cheese. NOT exacttly what the "Soft Food Diet" was suppose to be. (I wasn't home when he made it.) I keep coming down and finding a spoon next to a jar of PB. Yes, he can have Peanut Butter, but...at midnight?? He just hasn't given up those bad habits.

I had a big talk with him this morning and told him he needed to make higher protein and lower calorie food choices. I told him I was worried he would be disappointed with his next weigh in, etc. Told him to start exercising so he would keep muscle...bla bla bla.

I'm hopeful but worried. He doesn't see doc again until July 11th and I will be in Grandfather Mt, so won't be able to tattle on him to his doc. I may email him.

I'm going to ENCOURAGE (force) him to make an appointment with a psychologist. He's a food addict and he self medicates with food. He needs to get a handle on that stuff asap.

So...the SHORT answer is good-ISH...with an emphasis on the "ISH". lol

[> [> Tam I think your plan to email doc is a good one I would also FORCE some counseling I'm surprised the med drs don't prescribe that with this surgery. If it helps you could use the proven FACT that male front of the male brain the soft pallet where decisions and common sense is fully formed doesnt completly close until mid to late 20's (this is relatively new research) and makes so much sense to me when I hear about crazy male behavior. In other words he NEEDS as much help mentally as he did physcially! Make the medical docs help you with the mental part of this by prescribing the mental treatment! -- BetsyG, 19:16:08 06/22/12 Fri

[> [> So glad he is physically recovering so quickly! The other stuff is what's going to take the time it seems. Hopefully he can find someone he is comfortable with to work it all out. Fingers crossed! -- Fiona, 20:39:17 06/24/12 Sun

[> The only exercise my BIL did after his surgery was walk the dog. He was and still is very good about his eatting. I know if he ate too much he would throw up. I also know that he lost weight before his surgery to show that he would take this surgery seriously. I agree with the others he needs a head Dr. Hang in there Tam. -- Toddles, 11:48:02 06/25/12 Mon

[> I agree with telling his dr and seeing about some kind of therapy for him. Does eating bad make him sick? I hope he can get it all under control. I think excersize is going to be very important with him losing weight. I think it will help with his skin tone. -- Cherie, 22:08:54 06/25/12 Mon

[> So far nothing has made him throw up, but he'll get pain in his chest, basically where the stomach pouch is. If he takes too big of bites, or eats too fast, or too much it causes pain. He seems to tolerate sugar fine (bummer) and dairy and spicy. He's lucky in that regard. It's kind of 4 steps forward one step back. His mood changes daily too. ONe day up beat, next day depressed or angry. -- Tam, 21:59:56 06/29/12 Fri
