Nepales Inquirer News Service LOS ANGELES, California, United States of America -- Misalucha spoke to the Fil-Am media at a gathering to announce that she and the Society of Seven (SOS), a veteran show band from Hawaii, have landed a six-month contract to perform at Bally's Las Vegas beginning this Saturday, Aug. 7. The show's publicists are declaring that with her gig at the 1,160-seat Jubilee! Theater, Misalucha becomes "the first Filipino artist originating from the Philippines to headline a main showroom in a major Las Vegas strip hotel-casino for six months." Misalucha added, "My manager here has so many plans for me. I have an upcoming album. I have a tour. So I don't regret leaving the Philippines." About her Las Vegas stint, in which she will sing with the SOS at the Jubilee! Theater daily except Friday, she gushed, "Honestly, this is something that I've never dreamed of. I never thought that this would happen to me and that I'm going to be there singing for six months. This is something that I've never planned. Never, never, never." Misalucha, labeled in Manila as "Asia's nightingale," and the SOS will be performing as one act. SOS includes Gary Bautista, who also had a flourishing career as a singer and impressionist in Manila before moving to Hawaii. SOS co-founder and member Tony Ruivivar explained, "We are pooling our talents together. We have a good chance of competing with the other great talents who are in Las Vegas. Never in our entire career did we think that we were going to have a woman in the group because I do a lot of numbers as a woman (laughs), and so does Gary. But when we heard Lani sing, we said, this is it. She is the best I've ever heard. She also has a great personality. She's very down to earth." SOS manager Larry Harrison added, "I brought one of the top writers of the Las Vegas Sun to watch a preview. He said, my God this is unbelievable. He stood up and gave a standing ovation. Society of Seven is exciting on its own. They can put on a show that's unbelievable. With Lani, it's going to be even better." The other members of the SOS, which is a regular act on the Strip, are Randy Abellar, Roy Guerzo, Wayne Wakai, Hoku Low and Bert Sagum. Misalucha and SOS' revue of music and comedy routines goes on at 3 p.m. "Jubilee!," the long-running spectacle of occasionally topless showgirls, is the evening attraction at the theater. Sustaining an afternoon show for several months in Las Vegas is a challenge, so if the revue by the act jokingly referred to as the Society of Eight (including Misalucha) is a success, the trailblazing Filipino-American producers, marketing and advertising people deserve as much credit as the performers. The show is produced by Rosy Cheeks Entertainment Group Inc., composed of Mendrei and Cecile Leelin, Noli Misalucha and Edwin and Lani Raquel, at whose LA mansion the press conference was held. Former Manila writer Jackie Y. Regala handles the marketing and promotions. Her husband Gerry A. Katigbak is in charge of advertising. Like what Mortensen said, I really don't think that Regine is really big on making it here in the States. She was interested in the Le Grand project because she like his works. Offers where given to Regine so many, many times already, and she turned them all down. She is happy and contented to be where she's at right now, and that is in the Philippines. I recall that even after winning Bagong Kampeon, she could have fled to Japan and performed there just like the other previous champs and make big bucks, but she chose to stay in the Philippines and struggled and worked hard, hoping to make it in a very indefinite and compromising world of Philippine showbiz, and guess what? I'll respect what your musician husband has to say. Its his opinion as a musician. hmmm.. Can I ask a few questions? Is he a recording musician? Tour musician? A good musician playing in a band or stage-show or teaching in school/camp or just as a hubby when he isn't working some other job? Just wondering.. He wouldn't a computer programmer or an airline pilot, would he? hehe.. So he got to see Regine, eh? Several times even! And he doesn't think she's good enough to sell records there? Nah.. that can't be. Unless he was just being dragged to watch her sing. You haven't been making him watch shows he wouldn't really like, have you? Then he must truly loves you. hehe.. (hold on to that one, missy) Oh, and is he a pop music lover or a rocker? Anyway, Regine's time as an new recording artist for the U.S. or any other country may not be in the cards anymore. At least as a top pop artist. Middle-of-the-road (MOD) or adult-comtemporary (and do I dare mention "pop country") is and will always be a possibility if she ever gets that kind of opportunity. Because till now she would still be the first artist alot of people would mention if they were asked who would be the most logical choice to do something musical for a pinoy artist. Your hubby's answer sounds logical. But maybe he never really played in a group or band that had a filipina as the lead singer. People and especially American music lovers always appreciate hearing a good foreign singer. Its something that would be different for them. And you know how Americans can be- if its different than they will check it out and make a big deal about it if they like what they hear. And at one time I know Regine was a different kind of singer to hear. Even today, she is still one singer that sounds as good as her records when she is singing LIVE. Not too many (except some of the superstars can handle doing the kind of music set (songs in her concert line-up) she does. The tone of her voice? (I had something to say about that. But I took it out. So I'll go along with what you said about it for now.) But for an argument sake (with facts that should be mentioned here for all the fans to know about)I'm going to make a couple of points that will defend the belief that she would have done well in the U.S.music charts before because - If Celine made it then Regine could have easily done well too. Since there were recording companies that did want her like Sony Records (and a few others) then I have to say that if anyone knew what would be a good music risk to take it would have been the record companies themselves. And apparently some wanted to. So Regine would have had her chance if the deals for it wasn't being mis-handled badly from those with the Philippines side. I'm still waiting to hear from anyone connected to David Foster. The music producer. To see if the old rumors about him wanting to work with Regine are true. And if they were then the argument would is over. If David wanted you it would be because he thought you got what it takes. And for crying out loud, Asia's Nightingale is obviously an offshoot of Asia's Songbird. At least, Asia's Songbird title came out in HongKong if you didn't know. And Regine justified that. She released 3 major chart-topping and best-seller albums all across Asia and till now still has a steady fan base including Wallace Huo, Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau, Remus Choi among others. Mandy Moore on her website regard Regine as Asia's Biggest Female Popstar. Celine revived (w/ paul Anka) It's Hard To Say Goodbye that Regine originally recorded with paul. Lani...now Asia's Singing Sensation... give me a break pipol. There's nothing sensational. She's not known in Asia (except Philippines), gives up her blossoming career here just to start all over again in a foreign land...what is sensational about that? Forgive me but Lani, will not really go so far in the U.S., in the same way Martin did not do well more than a year after his stint at the famous Golden Nugget Hotel (well the whole Las Vegas is famous for pete's sake!). REGINE is a good singer and so is LANI. on one hand, although lani's way of singing was not really embraced by filipinos because lani's style is much more of high class. regine's way of singing, on the other hand, was really embraced by the filipinos. maybe because of the culture practiced by filipinos that if a singer has really a wide range and sings high notes that singer is considered a very good singer. but you know what, in the states people don't think that way. its the way singers perform their songs. may that singer belts or not it depends. i like regine's way of singing but as time passed by her songs make my ears swell. maybe because of how many years of singing high-pitched songs and belting so hard. most of the time when i watched SOP i get irritated by the shouting that she does everytime she sings the high notes.. i would prefer to listen to mymp's song because it's soothing and pleasant to the ear. But i respect your opinions. but i dont think that you deserved to be called filipinos. if all filipinos were like you i dont want to be called a filipino anymore. YOU'RE DISGUSTING. Anyway, I don't want to pit Regine and Lani.. both are great singers/artists.. I'm glad that Lani got out from her manager.. I never liked Lani before coz I always hear not so good things about her.. which some are true and some are not... anyway, I was curious to watch her show kasi 50 dollars tapos nasa harap ka na niya.. She started the show with a stretch "I will always love you" voice quality.. impressive but the arrangement sucks.. i know she tried to make it sound like its hers and not to sound like Whitney but it just didn't impress me.. anyway.. the highlights of her performances were Celine's "My heart will go on".. she imitated Celine's gestures sorta like mocking but mind you... She sounds exactly like Celine.. just to remind you that this show is all about impressions of the impressionists.... not to forgot the Operatic rendition that would make you cry.. She got a standing ovation on that one.. she's really good.. a versatile singer.. balita ko.. nanood daw si Celine sa show ni Lani at SOS wearing baseball cap.. na intriga siguro kay Lani.. if you wanna know the review of Lani's performances.. just click google.. anyway.. i'm talking about Lani's voice/performance review okay? not with SOS... so anyway.. you would be proud of her.. balita ko na extension daw ang show at more than 1 year na.. supposed to be 6 months lang.. pero hindi puno ang show niya matinee iyon at friday pa.. I would think if Lani will be given a chance kahit sa Vegas Entertainment lang.. I think she will really get big sa Vegas. I didn't really want to end the show.. but it has to end.. the SOS was quite a fun too but I wanted to see Lani more. they did a Lion King performance too.. impressive din at nakakatawa.. but.. meron lang medyo bastos na patawa.. minsan iyong parang sa atin lang okay but i don't think it would sound okay sa mga puti.. marami ding mga puti na nanood don. i bought her crossover album at natuwa siya.. nagpasign ako.. mabait naman siya.. pero ano na naman itong nabasa ko na she's talking about herself.. hay.. it's not really good to talk about yourself.. on how good you are.. let others talk about how good you are Lani.. we know you are good.. so let us tell you that okay? i wish na you will do more after Vegas contract.
