I simply like both Lani and Regine. Regine is famous for her exceptional belting. Lani is famous for the versatility and variety of her voice (she can sing songs from pop to opera). But, though I hate to admit it, Filipinos, perhaps not only them but also many MANY other people, do have a common taste. They are quick to like singers who can do the highest registers. They fail to see the true meaning of "performing", (not "singing") (they're completely though abstractly different). They quickly get amazed with singers like Regine. I mean, that kind of belting which Regine does doesn't essentially make a singer good. There are many other factors needed to consider in judging how good a TRUE PERFORMER, not some singer (coz almost anyone can sing), really is. And, yes, Regine is so predictable, for example, everytime she sings, people know that she's gonna belt and shout soon, no or very little variety. While Lani knows "best" how to interact with her fans and audience, she can do a wide, I mean WIDE variety of songs and voices, from rock to opera, from Britney's style to Whitney's style, from modern alternative to classical, from the lower registers to whistles. She can shift her voice effortlessly, which makes her unpredictable, and, therefore, in every sense of the phrase, a true performer. Regine IS, no doubt, excellent, but not as "fresh" as Lani, who is always new in every performance. Greatness-wise, they're both great. The only difference is that Lani is being blown all over the globe more frequently than Regine. There's no point in comparing their greatness. Perhaps, I should put it this way - Regine is the greater SINGER, yet Lani is the greater PERFORMER. Belting and Range versus Versatility and Variety. Well, versatility and variety show more talent. But belting and vocal range seem to have more impact. So perhaps Regine is, indeed, more famous than Lani, but Lani is insignificantly but UTTERLY better.
