It was the concluding night of Regine's "Songbird Sings" series at the Onstage. And it is just appropriate to regard it as her ultimate performance.

It is an understatement to say that Onstage was filled to capacity (as all the other previous nights). The venue was brimming with people! I have never seen Onstage filled with so much warm bodies.

The steps in the most expensive tickets were lined with monoblock chairs to accommodate more patrons, while the steps in of the remaining popularly-priced rows had people who bought SRO tickets (two in each step). Going up and down the venue was indeed troublesome. (We anticipated this that's why it's always wise to empty your bladder before the show starts).

You can never go wrong with a Regine Velasquz show. In my opinion, this series is way much better than her last engagement, "Regine At The Movies". Overall production was exceptional--uncomplicated but more than the bare minimum.

The clever use of lighting fixtures added more drama to the already satisfying music of the Songbird; and the timing of the flashed images in the background accentuated the otherwise dull strips of white cloth.

I give reverence to Regine's pool of musicians, foremost to Raul Mitra. Most of the arrangements did not completely divert from the original and this allowed the people to savor the music the way they came out in their CD players. However, the creative musical twists were very much appreciated. In my observation, they were the highlights of the show – the significant “Narito Ako”,the anthem “On The Wings of Love”, and the “Ikaw”-titled movie themes.

The sound off the speakers was perfect, never missing its "up volume" cue during a song highlight.

Frankly, I would have wanted Miss Velasquez include the following defining songs in the repertoire: You'll Never Walk Alone, Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang, Isang Lahi and the unreleased heart-thumping and edgy Music of Goodbye.

Anyway, I believe the extremely high quality singing and overall production more than made up for the song selection. The place was filled with haunting Regine music.

It was pure delight to see her perform with might “Love Me Again”, her compelling debut song. I can sense her saying “This is my original song!”

Stuffing a show with ones “hit songs” is not an easy feat; only a few in the country can legitimately claim that. And, to keep pace with the building pressure of performing in front of a sold-out venue for 16 nights can drive you crazy. Not if you’re Miss Regine Velasquez—all elegance, all power…always submissive to her audience (evident in the “photo-opps”, and in singing the gutsy “What Kind of Fool I Am” and “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” for the encore).

Truly, Regine couldn’t ask for more—she’s elevated by her peers with a great deal of respect, countless hit songs and movies, a loving family, and enormous fan base who’ll never desert her.

Three wishes for her in 2003: an honest rest (during her December 14 show, her voice is cracking at crucial moments, indicative of her health condition), an inspiration for a song for you to write, and an entry in the Billboard Hot 100.

I can’t get enough of Regine. Sing more, Regine! We love to see you at your best!

On that final night, everyone was awestruck…because their incomparable Songbird is soaring higher and higher, with her feet still firmly planted on the ground.

Peace Out > Luis
