According to the old media reports from Polycosmic Regine officially sold more than 3 million of her asia-released albums. Unofficially its a good bet she sold as many as 6 million. More than enough to be considered an Asian 'superstar.' Just because its not being talked about, printed about and pushed as much as it should be, (since she's with a totally different recorc company now) doesn't make it less than what it is. And what does it mean? The most successful Philippine recording artist outside the country. 2nd to none. Please no comparison to Lea. We are talking in terms of albums sold. Lea's US album release was unfortunately a flop. Though I remember it almost cracked the TOP 200 album charts. And there's a little known fact too. Regine still is the best selling Philippine artist internationally. Can you guess what I meant by that? I love to tell you if anyone can hit that nail for me. So in reality, Regine is having an international career right now. Because she tours. But everyone does that. But because she is selling big overseas. Jun M. But this is what I can say about Regine's chances of getting recognized in the mainstream. It is very, very, very slim. Not that she is not good enough, for we all know that she is one of the best in the world, but because she does not have good representation or not influencial enough. Regine no doubt is a world-class artist, but we have to realize that everything that is happening in the music & movie industry (mainstream) is dictated by Hollywood. We've come to an age that talent (especially singing) can be enhanced to sound very good than what is real through high-tech audio/recording systems. We've also come to an age (in Hollywood) that wholesome entertainment (like Regine's) is not as marketable as it used to be (it's now eminem). It's all about the artist's packaging that will get you noticed. But why are we pushing Regine? For all I know, we are so lucky to have enjoyed Regine's amazing true to life pure talent. If you ask me, it's Hollywood's loss that they have not been able to hear our songbird's voice. I mean look at it, the US market are going nuts over Britney Spears and all those other computer enhanced artists here in the states. And what do they get? Poor live performances, using stage effects and creative choreography, not to mention lipsynching, to cover up for it. Sadly pathetic, but that is how it is in Hollywood. So don't feel sorry for our Regine. It is not her or our loss. She is and will probably remain unrecognized by the mainstream industry, but what really matters is that she's still doing well and is continuing to inspire so many of us and that we will always be loyal and supportive to her career and that she will forever remain in our hearts as.....The Philippine's songbird. It's just that, for many, the standard for pop music success is if you can make it in North America. However slim the chances are, I still am hoping that Regine will go for it. I mean really go for broke (am I asking too much?). Anyway, her career will always be here if ever she doesn't reach the kind of success that she is hoping for (we'll make sure of that). And the fact that there are no divas who are making good now in the US makes me think that Regine has to go now so that she may fill that void.
