I really shocks me the idea that many filipinos have of their history and how the spaniards are always painted with dark colours. After all, not a single language was rooted out during the spanish era, filipinos seem to be very pride of their religion and there are many thousands of spanish words in filipino languages. Even the national anthem was written in spanish. So it is difficult for me to understand why filipinos don't like being considered hispanic while the whole of america, where plundering and genocide was huge, is proud of their hispanic heritage. By the way, I understand that chinese filipinos spoke spanish for centuries. Was that true?
