ok well it sounds to me like you guys only vote for her because she's from hawaii. shouldnt this be about talent? shouldnt you vote for someone because you think that that person is what defines an american idol??? u vote for her cuz u think hawaii needs to be represented. well maybe she isnt exactly the best...maybe neither of them are. take jasmine for example. although i didnt see ai3 this week, i came into class the next morning with everyone saying that it was her last week. they said she was so horrible...she killed "its raining men." then simon said it was over for her...n nobody really had anything good to say to her for that performance...i woke up thursday morning listening to the radio as always. and the radio host couldnt stop talking about how jasmine just got those "sympathy votes"...well i dont think it was really that. i think that if she screwed up badly and diana did well, then i would have voted for diana. jasmine is still there because all hawaiians vote for her because they want someone representing hawaii. and a lot of filipinos vote for her because she's getting recognition for filipinos too. i havent casted a single vote this season. but i know filipinos whose families keep voting for jasmine purely because she's filipino. give me a break. go by talent. i want whoever has the most talent to win. if jasmine isnt the best, i dont want to hear her all over the radio. and i dont want to see her all over tv. hawaiians act like they should be set apart from the rest of the u.s. and they should be thought of with high regard. geez!!

i think the beauty of music is in the ear of the listener. for me, jasmine trias sang the best on disco theme night. it was just that all the judges, including the usually nice paula abdul, lied (or had some hearing problems) that night, which made jasmine cry. just listen to the ai3 greates soul classics cd. jasmine recorded the 3rd best voice in the studio, just next to camile velasco (clearly the best!) and the similarly-maligned redhead guy whose name i've forgotten. also, regarding the voting controversy, hawaii's people shouldn't shoulder the blame as they were able to cast only over a million votes out of 9(?) million total on that tuesday night for jasmine ( i think she received the highest # of votes). most filipino-americans live outside hawaii, right? remember also that many filipinos in the u.s. vote for other candidates, not jasmine, and that many non-filipinos also vote for her. fair is fair. (NT)ading latta05/15/04 4:25pm PDT
