Let me hear your opinions on the death of Ma. Teresa Gerodiaz-Fariñas, former beauty queen/actress and wife of powerful Ilocos Norte ex-politician and lawyer Rodolfo Fariñas. The Philippine media - radio, TV, newspapers, magazines - have reported that she was a battered wife who became crazy and took her own life in the end.
Here's what one journalist recently wrote:
"Unfortunately, I never wrote the story even if I kept Carlson's note for the longest time and showed it to everybody I knew in Manila who I thought could help her. I did not write the story because the senior editors of the newspaper did not want me to write it. They said Fariñas could sue us for libel. The editors also said I had no proof that Fariñas was beating up Carlson even if I had seen the cigarette burns on her face and heard the fear in her voice. They said FARIÑAS COULD EVEN KILL CARLSON AND ME."
This is indeed a tragic life story that sounds like a Hollywood movie. Are there organizations in the Philippines that address spouse abuse or domestic violence? Where are the Filipina activists and feminists? Are there Philippine laws that should punish the guilty parties in Carlson's death?
From pageants to televison, cinema, fame, money, power, multimillionaire wedding, children, spousal abuse and drugs, rest in peace, MTC.
