Philippine National Heroes' Day (formerly Andres Bonifacio Day) has just passed, so some of you'll likely find these Bonifacio facts interesting:
- Born in 1863 in Tondo, Manila (same birthday, Nov. 30th with American writer Mark Twain and British statesman Winston S. Churchill)
- Father of the Philippine Revolution, Asia's first revolt against Western colonial rule
- Founder of the Katipunan fully named as "Kataastaasan Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan" (Highest and Most Respectable Society of the Sons of the People)
- Katipunan was a secret society of Filipinos designed to overthrow Spanish sovereignty in the islands
- Executed on May 10, 1897 for treason and sedition charges despite insufficient evidence
