It definitely does have that kind of feel to it - but every time I read through the archives, I notice some new thing that had to be either unexpected foreshadowing or a really well-done retcon. And now that he's using Recapulon to explicitly reinterpret past events, the plot cohesion can only improve.

The strip does a lot to try to convince me that the writing's bad, but I'm not fooled. After all, something's compelling me to keep reading, and it's probably not the artwork.
