ZZZZA, I was prepared to laud your unbiased, if not completely supportive, post regarding the virtues of Cal Poly. . .That is, until I saw the punch that you landed squarely below the belt. . .You know darn well that the article you linked to is in no way representative of Cal Poly or her student body. Sure some of the "student's bodies" are on display every year during the Mardi Gras celebration. . .but 364 nights a year, SLO is pretty quiet for a college town.

Oldpost, all I can say is if your son does end up as a mid-major recruit, Cal Poly sounds like it'd be an excellent fit for him. Of course if he gets serious looks from the majors, the sky's the limit. But if I was a young 6'8" big man, I could be very happy in San Luis. This program is on the rise and I see Poly bringing in better recruits year over year (since Kevin Bromley took the helm). The team is already competitive in our conference and looks to improve in the coming years.

UCSB is a fine school in its own right. I am a UC graduate myself and even when I went to UC Irvine (1986 grad), we had the stadium seating lecture halls and TAs were the rule.
I imagine UCSB is similar. Nevertheless, I believe I got a quality education and I was very prepared for the real world when I graduated. As for Santa Barbara being a "party" town, my feeling is a kid can get in to trouble even at BYU or Holy Cross. I'm not sure I would rule out a school just because there may be ample opportunity to party there. If UCSB or UCI or UC Whatever have the academic and basketball programs that are a good fit for YoungPost, that's what really matters. You've raised your boy for 16-17 years and instilled in him the discipline to be a top high school baller. He likely has the discipline to avoid partying to excess and to stay out of trouble.

Best of luck no matter where your boy ends up. If he comes to Cal Poly, he ought not be disappointed.
