You are exactly correct CT. The disappointment is palpable, but that just goes to show how spoiled these ladies have made us. It will be a while before any of us recover, especially the girls, but in looking back, they will realize how much they did accomplish. And the cupboard is not bare, no matter how much that idiot who calls himself gorevidal who opines on the PoJo board wishes it to be so.

or did the Marist Women just complete a 29-4 season in what was supposed to be a down year? Gorevidal is a silly, silly person.

How many fans of mid-major WBB basketball programs can say they are as blessed as Marist fans. Off the top of my head, what is it, 6 straight years of 20+ wins, 6 of 7 winning seasons, 6 of 7 regular season titles. 5 of 7 trips to the NCAA tournament, 3-5 record in the NCAA tournament and .500 over the past 3 years.

How is the cupboard bare? Allenspach served notice that she intends to pick up just where Viani left off and the kids, well, won't be kids next year and now have one NCAA tournament game to draw on. (A major benefit since they relied so much on underclassmen this year) I expect them all to be more assertive next year. Heck they've already won a MAAC title game with Best running the team with Caron limited by illness. And while it would have been nice not to lose two players unexpectedly during the season, the staff did manage to sign a 6'3" recruit who is rated one of the best players in the northeast, whose signing got a mention on the UConn board and, can probably play both guard positions and the wing in college. And there is still the late signing period to go. Giorgis doesn't seem to be the kind of coach that gushes over his recruits, so when he says in the PoJo that they "love" the kids they are bringing in 2010, it has to really be something special.

Would have been amazing to win last night, but it was a long shot that the Foxes could keep the Cavs off balance with the zone for the entire game and that one stretch when they began raining 3's proved to much to overcome. Monica Wright will get all the credit but to me the difference maker for Virginia was Mohammad. She had a monstrous performance on the defensive boards that limited Marist second chances and clogged up the lane against the dribble-drive. Marist was brilliant in the first half, not so in the second, and I'm sure the only thing the ladies may be disappointed with is their free throw shooting. Probably one of their most untimely performances of the year and that otherwise could have kept the pressure on the Cavs.

For the rest of us, it's all good.

Call me a sore sport, but, why does Monica Wright remain on the Wooden Watch List as a finalist, and Fitz, does not? If you can convince me after seeing that game last night, than you can spin one heck of a yarn.

Go Red Foxes!!

And as much as it pains me to say, Go Saints! ;-)

The lady Red Foxes displayed tremendous grit & determination in executing a well thought out game plan by BG & staff. I think we witnessed the rising of a new star in Erica, who was just fearless driving to the basket, and showed great scoring touch. This team has alot to be proud of.

One player that I think we are gonna see a big jump in production next year is Laterza. While she has been slow to develop, I noticed a lot of improvement in her confidence handling the ball. She is gonna be huge in the conference next year, especially on the defensive side. Gang also looks very comfortable out on the court, just overmatched last night, but was her freshman year. Yarde is much better than she appeared over the past month. I think she hit that freshman wall they talk about.
Marist is not only recruiting talent, they now are recruiting good sized talent. Next year they have Fitz, Laterza, Stallings, Gang and Beynnon who are all over 6 feet I believe. All can also shoot the outside shot except for Laterza. Caron/Best is a nice defensive/offensive combo. Biggest thing is Giorgis is still here. Monster year next year. Hopefully they can get a couple up games scheduled. Would love to see Marist try to start up a series with Middle Tennessee State, they have a similar profile as us and will have a decent RPI.
