He is getting bigger and bigger minutes as bauer's play is shrinking, how did we manage to find a walk on from LA who is starting to play major minutes, not to mention that he is producing with the confidence!

"Taylor-made success

Mike Taylor has benefited from the Marist injury woes this season. The walk-on guard from Los Angeles has played 19 minutes in the last four games and is averaging 0.8 points per game and 0.7 rebounds. A highlight for Taylor in the young season was nailing a three-pointer against Memphis on Dec. 2.

So how exactly does a walk-on from Los Angeles end up in Poughkeepsie?

"It was a last-minute decision," Taylor said. "I was going to go to an all-black college, but I didn't have all the paperwork done."

He said he heard about Marist from his girlfriend and decided to give it a whirl.

"This was one school that accepted me," the freshman Taylor said. "I gave it a shot."

After tryouts, the only players left standing were Taylor and guards Pat McDerby and Nick Amicucci.

"The tryouts weren't that tough," Taylor said. "Basically, the coaches told us our role was making other players better. It's really good to be able to show what I can do. I know I don't have a scholarship, but Coach has had faith in me."

Taylor visited his aunt in Brooklyn for Christmas and his mother, Karen, is scheduled to attend Sunday's game against Bucknell."
