Now for my happy recap. Devezin answers Chucks calling out of him over the past few weeks. Bauer and Williams need to get the important minutes for the bigs. Vouyoukas has potential but is just too soft at this point. Marist had a perfect storm first half, couldn't miss from three and Niagara couldn't hit anything. For Niagara, Lewis is smaller than I thought. He plays his butt off, he was all over the floor on defense, but why was he guarding Scheider so often? I mean he did block a three point attempt of his, but it seems it would be easy for Schneider to shoot and pass over him most of the time. Benson had a bad game, no way around that. Back to Marist, Chuck is so damn great on the bench. He keeps his cool, makes his points to the ref, but does it in a subtle way (yes, easy to do in a comlete domination game, but he is always like that). Niagara had about 12 or so fans, if they made the trip, those are real fans. Maybe just locals who went there. Niagara bench tried to bully this one ref after the horrible call against Niagara on that block call, and the young ref was intimidated. Had no impact on game, but the whole bench was all over that ref. Back to game, Marist bigs had their best game, which again tells me Niagara isn't as good as advertised. Siena is gonna throttle them. Chuck Martin will be getting job offers next year, but he has shown more enthusiasm for this area and this team than the former coach did in his 3 years.

An aside. That dribble to the basket by Benn? and the slam by Williamson? might have been the best play athletically I have seen in all the games I have been too.

suspended LB, but then LB follows that up with his best game of the year. Gets them to completely turn around the awful rebounding job at Draddy, to play Benson E. and the athletic Purp front line to a draw on the boards, and earns an unexpected win at home. Hopefully Devezin has worked himself all the way back. If they can get just something, anything out of the front court over the course of the season, they might be able to avoid the PIG in Albany. That would be outstanding given where this program was last April.

Thursday is gonna be a lot of fun. Chuck will have them ready.

I know the students aren't back yet, but the main stands opposite the camera position are usually filled by the community. Did football affect this. Attendance was listed as 2043, but the place didn't even look half full on TV. Unless the side the camera was behind was capacity. Yankee, I think your reverse psychology on Kaylen worked. He looked awesome today.

Crowd was about half capacity on both sides and the general admission was probably 60 percent sold. Positive it had to do with the Giant game as a lot of season ticket holders weren't there as well.

Kaylen is really coming around. He was contributing defensively all year, but he really has turned his offensive game around. He has a nice soft touch on the outside shot and is a bit more in control on the drive. Although he did a drive where he tried a reverse, triple pump fake prayer layup at one point that reminded us all of the old Kaylen:). I bet he gets a couple steals and dunks off Ubiles this upcoming game.

That was a great win! Devezin had a huge game. Williams and Shneider also played great. Gregory was also strong. I liked the fact that as Niagara started to go on a bit of run in the 2nd half and closed within 14, Marist stepped up and ran the lead right back to 20. At the risk of killing a cliche, it was a great team effort. Very strong offensively and defensively, limited turnovers, smart plays. The only problem I had with the game was no students and no band equal zero atmosphere. As Marist was running all over NIagara in the first half, it sounded(at least on TV) it sounded more like a church or a museum than a basketball arena.

Niagara is good. Marist had a great day. They wouldn't have lost to Siena yesterday either. Siena barely got by the Jaspers. As always, the league is pretty close. Not after the next few years of recruiting though.. :-) I still think Fairfield will be a tough out. If Marist can steal a road game against a decent team and beat Canisius and St Petes on the road, they could win 8-10. Not bad and we know things will be on the upswing..
