Hi, All:

I got a phone call from Donna this morning. The connection was horrible and
eventually died altogether, but here's what she managed to say:

The short version:

Donna's fine. Alice got banged-up a bit by some sort of accident (I think
while riding) but is doing O.K. and continuing on with the group, just not
on a horse.

The longer version:

Donna called this morning. Today was the first time since their arrival in
New Delhi that they had access to a phone. She was using some sort of
cellular phone and the connection was very bad, fading in and out before
finally going away entirely.

She said she's doing fine. Her friend Alice got somewhat banged-up in an
accident with a horse but is doing O.K. and continuing with the group.
Since they're traveling with doctors she got immediate treatment, but she's
too sore to ride right now and is riding in jeeps and camel carts instead.

Donna said the first day they were there they were astonished at seeing
camel carts piled to the sky with merchandise, and then even more so at
seeing the same thing but with eight people riding on top of those piles.
They saw vehicles similarly loaded with eight or ten people.

By a few days later THEY were the folks riding atop camel-pulled carts with
bunches of other people. She also mentioned that at one point they were
part of a group of people riding ten in a jeep, I assume as they were
heading out to the remote villages.

She said the horses they were given to ride were not as nice as expected,
and that after a few days she and Alice found they preferred to ride in the
camel carts.

She asked how everybody was doing and I told her we were all fine. She also
asked about her dogs, and if she had any urgent emails in her in-box. I
told her the dogs were all fine and that there was nothing urgent in her
email folders that needed her attention, so she could relax and enjoy the
trip.

By then the connection began breaking up more and more badly, then died
altogether.

-- Mike
