Subject: Defensive efforts when opposition has the ball still pretty ordinary

Richmond perhaps looks better than last season when it has the ball but we're still obviously very, very second-rate when the opposition has it.
It means we are ridiculously easy to score against. And that's sh!thouse. There's not much that p!sses of a supporter than seeing not one, but three opposition players running down the field unimpeded. That's not lack of ability. It's laziness. Or a lack of discipline.
I'm actually at a loss as to why otherwise fine players like Dustin Martin and Brett Deledio are so bad at those aspects of the game. What is the point of busting your arse to set up a hard earned goal, only to give the opposition soft goals in reply?
I keep fantasizing that this part of Richmond's game will suddenly click.
On some levels it was a less horrible performance than previous efforts against the cheats. Obviously their midfield is significantly better than ours, but perhaps not to the extent of 12 months ago.
The thing that sh!ts me is the things that are worst about our game should be one of the easier things to fix. Until it is fixed we will not beat top six - or top eight for that matter - opposition. Ever.
Back to the drawing board...
