. . . but they have an accepted policy of resting/rotating players (and the rest-rotation is even beginning to creep into football, as was seen a couple of years ago when Collingwood gave both Buckley and Thomas games off to rejuvenate). Also, Australia still went to New Zealand with the intention of winning. It required some awesome efforts from the Kiwis to knock them over.

You expect your team to go out there and try to win - not off-field, with draft-picks, or with profits, but on the scoreboard. It mightn't be written into the rulebooks, but that's only because it should go without saying.

Also, would look at it from a punter's perspective (although I don't bet). A punter puts down a bet, expecting that that team will go out and try to win.

I'm sure there'd be enormous ramifications if a punter lost potentially hundreds of thousands because one of the teams he bet one was proven to have not tried to win. How would you feel if you blew the footy quad because a team you selected threw the game?

Look, as I said in my original post, I don't disagree with your ideology. Collingwood should've done the same in 2004 and put themselves in a position where they could've picked up a Franklin or Griffen.

But I don't agree tanking is right, which is why the AFL system is flawed.
