Not much went right for the Hawks in the GF, and they still won comfortably. Lost the clearances, Buddy was quiet, injuries, umpires. They are outstanding.

Clarkson is miles ... no eons ... ahead of any other coach in the game. He moved an AA midfielder into defenese when he noticed that they were a bit light on back there - and the bloke won the Norm Smith Medal. Clarko's cluster is a work of genius. It will be worked out, but in the meantime every club in the AFL struggles to get the ball out of Hawthorn's forward line once it gets in there.

And when Hwathorn were down to 20 men - by HALF TIME - in the GF, Hawthorn played the slowest game any of us have ever seen. Chip, chip, chip, force a point, force a point ... and their side was able to endure despite lacking not one, but TWO rotations.

And imagine what the result would have been if Buddy had had a blinder!!!

They are, as I see it, easily THE team to beat in 2009. Cats will have to improve sharply to match them, and no one else is a chance.

PS I can't belive that a whole thread has discussed the hawks defence and not mentioned the number one defender in the last part of the season - Luke Hodge.
