Subject: New To The Board, Question

Hey everyone,
I am new to this board, so forgive me my newbie mistakes. I chat over at the WB, but the Buffy and Angel fans are dwindling over there. I am looking for a new board to discuss Buffy/Angel.
I recently watched Angel season 5 for the first time and I have a burning question. Did Joss know that the show was getting cancelled when he filmed the season 5 finale?
Buffy ended so well and I can't imagine that Joss would end Angel the way he did if he knew. This is my oppinion. I am looking for facts. Thanks.

Yes, they found out when they were about half-way through filming series 5 that it wasn't going to be renewed. They started assuming there was going to be a series 6, they had plotted some vague things up to the end of 5 assuming there would be another season... and they they got the news they were cancelled. The Girl In Question, for example, I think was originally meant to be two separate episodes that got squashed into one so they would have time to tie up the loose ends before the finale.

I think an idea was that Season 6 would be post the fight in the alley, post apocalyptic, apparently a bit like Mad Max or something. Then when they found out they were cancelled, it got altered a little. Namely, certain characters would most certainly not have died if there had been a season 6.

Personally, whilst the finale broke my heart, it was the right type of ending for the series. Angel was a dark show, not as clear cut, and in the end, that was the moral of the whole thing. It's not whether or not you really succeed that makes it worthwhile, it's whether or not you tried and did what you could when the opportunity came.

Yes he knew, and he also said in a recent interview that the ending was partly to say that it hadn't ended. It wasn't meant to be neatly tied up because as far as he was concerned, the show wasn't or shouldn't be over, there was more to tell, and that's what the episode was meant to reflect.

BTW, if you come over to the main spoiler board there are a lot more people who chat about Ats and BtVs, and will be sure to give you a warm welcome!
