Subject: Spike will lead Angel out of W&H

Apologies for double posting this on the other Board as well. Can anyone tell me which is the correct one for this type of post?
====================================

No destiny indeed. Can there have been a more ironic statement made in the Angelverse.

Why is Spike here? He sacrificed to save the world and came back to tell the tale, too dumb/action hero to even realize what he had done till Fred told him. He wasn’t kidding when he told Buffy in Touched:

“I follow my blood which doesn’t exactly rush in the direction of my brain so I make a lot of mistakes. A lot of wrong bloody calls.”

He acted and doesn’t reflect until Fred’s words hit him like a brick. And then he is ripe for Lindsey’s pickings (Destiny thru Your Welcome). Spike has great instincts. He bought into Lindsey but only so far. The doubt was already there by the time of his Cordy taste test. Did he blow it in Damage? Sure but he only hurt himself by rushing in and may have saved others. Is he a fool for not realizing after Chosen the heroism of his act? Sure but the kind of fool the gang needs now, the kind of fool that blows off Wesley and Gunn when they come a-calling offering seductive corruption.

Does anyone really believe Lindsey had the power to get the amulet back and reconstitute Spike without a lot of help? Who is the man behind the curtain?

Spike has worked the last few episodes to gain Angel’s respect and he’s succeeded. The turning point was in Destiny when Spike trounced Angel. The physical counts to the warrior. Damage ended in an emotional bonding, advancing the themes of Hellbound with the addition of self-forgiveness.

Spike is alike to Angel in essential and obvious ways—vampire with a soul making sacrifices to atone. It’s the emotional and personality differences between them that make their pairing (no sex intended, but the imagination is rampant) needed to move them both to their respective destinies and of course save the world. They must embrace the differences in the other. The most glaring one at the moment is Spike’s outsider status, and he has refused to come inside. If and when he does it will be brief and their will be hell to pay, but he will lead the others out whether literally or by revelation.

Spike, to Angel’s great chagrin, has learned in the space of months to live with his damning vampire deeds, deeds Angel still can not face. Angel has parlayed that guilt into purpose. Spike needs purpose. Angel needs less guilt. Spike needs to think. Angel needs to act. Both need sex, love and happiness. Can they teach each other?
