I remember it vividly, as I did much of my "growing up" there. My grandparents vacationed there in the 30's or 40's. Name was changed from the Union House to Kramer's Hotel to Hotel Charles. It was presided over till the end by old man Charlie Kramer, but truly managed by his daughter, Anne Halpern. I started going there with my parents in the 50's starting at the age of a few months old. After parts of virtually every summer (as well as holiday weekends) as a guest, my dream came true when, on July 4th weekend of 1971, at the age of 15, the Children's Waiter came down with mono and I landed a job. Soon moved to the main dining room as a busboy, I worked there that summer and the following summer of '72 which was the hotel's last year of operation. The hotel's mailing list (and I) were sold to the Ridge Mountain Hotel in Parksville. The Hotel Charles's technical mailing address was in Youngsville, though it was equidistant between Youngsville and White Sulphur Springs. It had about 130 rooms including those in the main building and 3 or 4 smaller but newer structures. There was a long staircase down a hill which led to the "casino"/playhouse, a pool (a late addition) and the lake (which was large, had a 90-degree angle, and ended in a dam/waterfall which dropped into a stream. What is your connection to the hotel? Are you related to Bess & Sol Goldberg, who were friends with my parents and whom I served in the dining room at both the Hotel Charles and the Ridge Mountain Hotel through 1976?
