The Dog Days of summer are upon us and conversely there's little to do with your dog, just too hot. A few bright spots, but things won't really start to roll again until Sept. Remember the many free concerts going on in the cooler evenings at various parks that welcome (or at least tolerate) your dog.

Due to the heat there will be TWO Newf Romp n' Swims, one on Sat 8/13 at 1pm & the other on Sun 8/28 at 1pm; both take place at beautiful Downs Park in Pasadena, MD.

Sat 8/6, 11am- 4pm, FAIRFAX, VA: Not just a dog wash anymore, it's a Dog Spa including bathing, nail trims, ear trimming, canine massage and digital portraits of your newly gleaming pooch at Weber's Pet Supermarket by SPCA NoVa http://www.spcanova.org/ .

As if that isn't enough, there's also a fun pet show at 11am- 1pm with lots of prizes for things like waggiest tail, best costume and biggest ears. On Sun, there's agility and Canine Musical Freestyle. On both days there are horse shows, livestock judging, games, food, rides and much more. Free admission and parking, too.

Sun 8/7 4- 7pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Christmas in August Ball at Paws Pet Boutique, 64 State Circle http://pawsannapolis.com/ . Check out the handpainted ornaments and watch the artist.
