Subject: Sept '03 Balto/DC/Annapolis Area Dog Events

September approaches and with it, hopefully, some nice cool dry weather. Those of you with Newfs, plan on attending Fall Fun Day Sat 10/11 at Downs Park in Pasadena, MD. If anyone would like to volunteer to bring something (like a pack of hotdogs & rolls or a bag of ice) or do something (how can you resist the chance to clean- up?), please let me know. Sat 8/30 9am-12noon, ALEXANDRIA, VA: Try not to miss the 12th Annual Canine Games extravaganza put on by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria http://alexandriaanimals.org/~awla/special_events.cfm (scroll down-the canine games click-on link is for last year) at Chinquapin Park, 3210 King St. This is quite an event with a lot of fun contests (bring your costume), loads of freebies (bring a tote bag) and much to look at (bring your camera).

Sat 9/6 12N- 5pm, ANNAPOLIS, MD: Get your 80lb + dog brushed, washed, rinsed & towel dried (bring your own towel) for $10 by the volunteers at the Anne Arundel Co SPCA http://www.aacspca.org/calendar/. Only $5 for dogs under 80 lbs. This is the first year they're doing this and if a bunch of Newfs show up, they may never do it again.

Sat 9/6 1- 4pm, NORTH BETHESDA, MD: Is there a Doggie Dip at the Montgomery Aquatic Center? The Montgomery Co Humane Society makes a passing reference to it at http://www.mchumane.org/calendarofevents.htm but I can't find any other web info. If you're interested, try calling the Center at 301-468-4211. There's nothing on their website http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/mcgtmpl.asp?url=/content/REC/recipix/aquatic.asp

Sat 9/13 3-6pm, HERNDON, VA: Herndon Dogs http://www.herndondogs.org/ is having their 1st Annual Membership Appreciation Potluck Pooch Pool Party at the Courts of Chandon. Dogs get to swim in the pool while people get to eat.

Sat 9/20 10am- 5pm, COCKEYSVILLE, MD: The Oriole Dog Training Club is celebrating the 1st annual AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day http://www.orioledogclub.org/RDOD.htm at Oregon Ridge Park with lots of demos, info, CGC testing and more.

RECURRING EVENTS:
Every Tu and Th 5-8 pm ALEXANDRIA, VA: Doggie Happy Hour http://doggiehappyhour.com . Held on a spacious enclosed outdoor terrace every Tues and Thurs from 5-8pm (often runs later) from April through Oct, this is a remakable combination of Happy Hour and happy dogs. Free and cheap snacks (ie, all-you-can-eat wings $1.95, shrimp $4.95) and a farm wagon piled high with dog yummies combine with booze to make this a memorable social outing for people and canines alike. Dress ranges from cut-offs and a Tshirt to business attire and street parking can be easily found.
