Thank you for exploring the information about Miamisburg that we have compiled here on the world wide web! Our City in 2005 redesigned and expanded this site to better utilize this technology as another great way to provide valuable public information about municipal operations and community news. We hope you find it useful.

As a lifelong resident of Miamisburg, it is a privilege and honor to serve this community as mayor. It is not an exaggeration to say I am living a dream.

Miamisburg is a tight-knit community with a rich heritage and a deep sense of history. So named by City founders after the Miami Indians that once inhabited this region, Miamisburg is still recognized as home to the famous Indian Mound landmark located here. An Ohio historical site, the Mound once served as an Indian burial site and remains virtually intact from its origins hundreds of years ago.

Historic preservation is also a current theme for a citizen-led effort to revitalize Miamisburg's downtown area. Our Market Square District serves as the hub of downtown, and efforts are on-going to enhance the physical appearance there and attract visitors with retail, entertainment and dining opportunities. Attractions such as the fabled Hamburger Wagon (est 1913) are very popular and show the distinctive personality and charm of downtown Miamisburg.

Don't be confused, however, to think our appreciation for history represents a lack of focus on the future. To the contrary, City leaders have proven in the last three decades to be very pro-growth. Numerous annexations have increased Miamisburg's size to nearly 12 square miles, and the 2000 census report indicated that our population increased 9.3% from 1990 to 2000. This continuing growth was acknowledged in a joint study by Ohio Business magazine and Cleveland State University in December 2002 that ranked Miamisburg as one of the top 50 “growth cities” in the state. The study used an exclusive formula for measuring economic vibrancy, charting population growth, housing growth, median family income growth and labor force changes over the past decade.

For prospective homeowners, Miamisburg offers a small-town lifestyle, friendly neighbors and a variety of housing opportunities including:

* Charming, older, well-preserved homes near the core of the City.
* Newer, yet affordable, suburban neighborhoods.
* An upscale development on a luxurious golf course setting.

Our community also features a top-quality public school system, with a dedicated staff of administrators and faculty. The Miamisburg City School District, which also serves most of Miami Township and a section of German Township, is the pride of our City and offers comprehensive educational opportunities for our young people. Three schools in the system, Miamisburg High School (1998), Wantz Middle School (2000) and Kinder Elementary (2003), have been named national Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence in recent years, and student proficiency test results often exceed state averages. As an alumnus, I know first-hand that the well-rounded education provided by our system is second to none.

From a business standpoint, Miamisburg is best-known as being the site of a former federal government defense production facility. The U.S. Department of Energy announced in the early 1990s that it would decommission the "Mound" plant after fulfilling its environmental cleanup responsibilities. That cleanup is expected to be complete within the next year, when the entire 306-acre complex will become a commercial business park. Efforts to ensure a smooth conversion are well underway, with approximately 20 private businesses already operating at Mound.

The City's largest employers are the Kettering Medical Center Network, operator of Kettering Medical Center-Sycamore, and Paxar Corp. The national headquarters of the Huffy Corp. also is located here.

From the level of City services we offer to the quality of life our residents enjoy to the strategies in place to ensure our community remains financially sound and politically strong, Miamisburg is poised to meet the challenges ahead in the 21st century.

Our community today is a growing, vibrant, suburban area that retains a small-town atmosphere where family ties and traditional values abound. There is much to learn about Miamisburg and the many great things happening here. I encourage you to browse through the information presented elsewhere on this web site. Thank you for your interest in Miamisburg.
