“If Sir Salman Spoke At Antioch”
Salman Rushdie's "The Satanic Verses", a NOVEL/WORK OF FICTION, was published in 1988, earning him a fatal "fatwa" death sentence [that has since been lifted?] from the intolerant Islamic world and mean Muslim men who, instead of being friendly or forgiving, wanted to make Mr. Rushdie quit living. I'm not a Rushdie fan, but where do all of these literature and liberty-loving liberals stand? To support and defend our fellow and female artists, writers and publishers in the Middle East, or in Britain, they might have to quit bitchin' about Bush and about how mean we and our troops are! Now, many mean Muslims want to fight and die, and are willing to kill, because they do not think that it is good that The Queen of England is honoring Salman Rushdie with a knighthood.
Ah, we don’t give a damn because he’s as safe in London as he would be in Amsterdam…as safe as a Van Gogh, like ya know. It is braver and safer to babble about the Bible and our Christian God...how odd. It’s almost like Sir Salman drew offensive cartoons that ridiculed Mohammed and his functionally-illiterate followers as fools. I guess that those folks just can’t take or make jokes, at least from what I seen on my TV screen.
Oh, if Sir Salman was invited to speak at Antioch College, to share and spread some diverse multicultural literary knowledge, would the FBI and our police people be allowed or likewise invited to check the mob for weapons and bombs, and provide protection for him, from angry Arabs, intolerant Islamaniacs, and mean macho Muslim-martyr men who were close-minded, judgmental and not as friendly as most of us Ohio folks…who can at least take and make some jokes. Or would our police people be sent there to protect and defend Sir Salman’s critics and enemies from being offended, much like these sensitive PC thought-crime campus police do when they pester people who offend them?
