“SPEAKY ENGLISH!”
In USA TODAY [7-11-07]: “Candidates lost in Chinese translation”. Here is a silly stupid story about Chinese advocates and activists, who are babbling, shouting, pouting, boohooing and suing about OUR government agencies/bureaucracies/public servants/contractors not properly printing OUR election ballots, instructions and political literature FOR THEM in Chinese! As if this is their right! Nobody in this story simply says: “LEARN OUR LANGUAGE!” Speaking and typing for me (if not for East Kentucky Magazine): If you can’t read, write and speak English (even with an East End Dayton dialect/Appalachian-American accent), you have no business participating in our political process, much less voting for people whom you do not know.
To be honest and fair, the vast majority of Asian immigrants eagerly and willingly learn English first and know better than to board the professional/perpetual-victim gravy train, to exhibit their ignorance and laziness, while ranting to get grants. Most of these people have sense enough to adapt and adjust to our culture and us without fussing and cussing. Oh, if only they could or would mow my grass [cheaply or FREE] to save me some writing and whining time. Hey, if they can’t read this, they won’t get pissed.
