Mr. Hong Kong contest has created some controversies. The previous Mr. Hong Kong, Matthew Ko, cried backstage after he failed to defend his title.

One of the audience complained that the voting machine was out of order and the winner, Francois Huynh, was not her choice.

Despite complaints accusing the contest of degrading men last year, the 2006 edition continued to focus on the contestants' bodies. During the swimwear segment, each contestant had to walk up from a pool on the stage and approach the female judges. Some of them were touched by the eager judges amid screams from the female audience.
