Do people actually think this stuff is seen as a positive for the school? I don't want to use negative terms to describe this nor Nike. Well, maybe Nike; but these things all look so much like results of colouring contest that kids turn in at the local bank at Easter.

Based on what I've read, the players generally like the ultra-modern stuff that Oregon has used in recent years, and the crazy uniforms have even been cited as an asset to recruiting. Their usage has certainly coincided with a period of unprecedented success for the program.

While lots of neutral sports fans dislike the uniforms, they have certainly kept attention on the program, and it would be difficult to imagine that being a negative thing.

What do Oregon's fans think of all this?

I really do think the players like them because they personally get to use and wear 4 helmets, 5 jerseys, and 4 pants. Who can compete with that? It's not about how they look, it's how many they get.

I'm not an Oregon fan, but I'm a Boise State fan, and I've had quite a bit of interaction with Oregon fans for the past two seasons since we have a 1-and-1 series with them. They seem used to the uniform jabs, and they really don't mind how they look since Phil Knight (Nike's CEO) is a major "sugar daddy" to Oregon sports. If my school had that kind of a donor, we could wear pink tutu's for all I care as long as we got all that money.

Also, it IS a major recruiting draw for them, and it DOES keep the team in the spotlight. It's basically the niche they've carved out for themselves in the College Football world. It's quite comparable to Boise State's blue turf, which has a similar effect on people (players love it, it helps put the team on ESPN often, many casual fans loathe it). I certainly wouldn't want anyone to take our Blue Turf away, since it is our niche.

Anyway, prepare to have your HDTVs explode on September 3rd when the green and yellow Ducks visit the blue and orange Broncos! It'll be the most vibrant game you'll ever watch! :P

Thank you for the point of view from the fans of the blue. When you put in the terms of the field, I can understand it a little bit. I follow U of New Haven and they will be bringing the team back this year and have put in a blue turf in hopes of gaining some press.

I guess I fall back to the stance that do teams like Penn St or USC or Michigan or Texas need to bring attention to the team based upon stunts like new unis every year.

I also question the sanity of a person going to Oregon because they have so many changes. I am likely off with the exact number, but I think one story stated that they have 248 combinations to choose from. At twelve games a season, how many years will it take to go through each comination once?

And about Boise St: I started following them after meeting some players and fans when they when they played Wisconsin a few years ago. Those were some of the nicest people and greatest players to come across. Those fans should be proud of what that school and state are all about and leave the blue turf as simply something for ESPN to carry on about as they do while the rest of us pay attention to the game.
