WHAT?!? Harvard is getting in on the stupid matte helmets? And a BLACK one at that? I thought they were called the Harvard CRIMSON, not the Harvard Black. Ridiculous
I can't tell whether there's a stripe on the new TCU helmet by looking at that photograph. If there is one, then it's basically identical to the one I have at the web site labelled "2011 (first 6 games)", except for the frogskin pattern, which would be impossible for me to replicate anyway with the helmet image size I use at the site. So this may be another can of worms as far as documentation at the web site is concerned. Hopefully there will be no stripe so I can just draw it as a "new" helmet.

As I've mentioned before I anticipate the trend of alternate helmet designs to spread to the smaller colleges, also, so I'm not too surprised to see one for Harvard.
Also, as I have mentioned before I am probably going to wait until these designs are actually used before adding them to the web site, since so many of the actually-used designs from the last 2 or 3 years have differed substantially from those announced earlier, and because these prototype photos are often taken indoors under non-optimal lighting conditions. Another factor is that the actual decals have probably not been ordered yet and what we are seeing in April may be just pieces of paper cut out and taped or glued to a helmet shell to give some idea of what the helmet will eventually look like (though I don't think that's the case with either the TCU or Harvard helmets presently being discussed).

I think what people are most surprised about the Harvard helmet is that it is black, not because it's an alternate. I too anticipated many more alternate helmets for some of the colleges in Division I-AA and lower, but as the first anonymous poster here said, they're the Harvard Crimson and any of their helmets without said color in it is just plain wrong.
