Didn't catch this until watching tonight's game (and even then it took a while because the effect is so subtle...)

The new Arkansas helmets have a dark fade toward the bottom and rear of the helmet (just like the helmet numerals). It's hard to distinguish it versus natural shadowing in most photos and may be difficult to represent on the site, but this NIKE article actually confirms it with its description of the helmets' "aggressive faded" finish.

I mentioned that same shade on the white helmets, but that didn't convince very many here--lighting trick, they thought. ::)

Very subtle indeed, and I have to wonder what the point of it is. Probably impossible for me to represent at the web site, since that area is "shaded" anyway in the template that I use, though I will, of course, add the white helmet to the site.

The white helmet is being used tonight against Rutgers.

[> Arkansas 1960 -- charles arey, 21:08:49 09/25/12 Tue (74.60.209.109)

I received a report that an announcer during the Arkansas-Rutgers game remarked that the white helmet with razorback logo was an approximation of a design used by the 1960 Arkansas team. This conflicts with all previous information I have received about the c.1960 Arkansas helmets, which were red (or cardinal, if you prefer) with white numerals, to the best of my knowledge. Does anyone have any information indicating that Arkansas ever previously used white helmets?

White helmets were worn from the late '40s through 1951, so there is a basic for the current alternate. They had not been used since until Sept. 22, so the history as detailed here is accurate.

Additional info can be found below.
