Subject: San Francisco 49ers: outline around "SF"

Here is your current note 1 for the San Francisco 49ers' "1964-1995" helmet below:

"Upon locating the necessary information, I will probably add one or two more helmet images to cover the range of dates represented by this image. Specifically, the thickness of the black outline around the red oval logo may have changed sufficiently during this period to warrant a separate image, and the black outline around the letters "SF" was apparently absent during the earlier years (the Mike Stanhope helmet site indicates that the outline was added "in the early to mid 1990s")."

There is a discussion currently ongoing on the Sportslogos.net website regarding the 49ers' "one-day logo" fiasco. Within the thread, there has been new information brought up regarding the black outline around the "SF":

On February 13, 1991, on the revelation of the "one-day logo" at the press conference shown above, the then-current 49ers helmet had no outline around the "SF".

Yet there seems to be a anomaly timeline-wise, because in the below image, the left side represented the 1988 helmet, with the right side was worn in the 1989 season. It can be confirmed that his minute change happened between those two Super Bowl-winning years.

Searching back to each of the five Super Bowl wins for the franchise turns up the following images:

At Super Bowl XXIX (end of the 1994 season), there was an outline present: https://taylorblitztimes.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/youngrice29.jpg

Ditto for Super Bowl XXIV (end of 1989 season): http://bestqballtime.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/joemo.jpg and https://cbsboston.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/gettyimages-3606431.jpg?w=628

While this image from 1988 shows no outline around the "SF": http://mybookie.ag/wp-content/uploads/San-Francisco-49ers-1988.jpg

And pictures from Super Bowl XXIII (end of 1988 season) seem to back up the non-outlined version: http://entertainmentallday.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/rice.jpg

Super Bowl XVI (end of the 1981 season) also had no outline either: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1687/24348577999_6a6dbf23f2_o.jpg

Interesting to note that the logo on the end zone was incorrect that year: http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/football-super-bowl-xvi-san-francisco-49ers-earl-cooper-victorious-picture-id81349692

Finally Super Bowl XIX (end of the 1984 season) also had no outline around the letters either: http://ww2.hdnux.com/photos/43/51/44/9345313/7/920x920.jpg

This image is of Dave Parks, who played wide receiver for the 49ers from 1964-1967, whose helmet also shows no outline: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/d3/ab/0a/d3ab0aad20b0116d751a4d81e7f25341.jpg

So this seems like definitive proof that the addition of the black outline occurs in the 1988-1989 offseason: a subtle change that had went under the radar all this time. Should this logo variation warrant a new helmet image now?
